Took the 636 out for its' first proper blast up to seaways one of my local caffs. Sat having my brew looking at all the other bikes and two S1000RRs come wailing in ridden by chaps in brand new leathers and TT jackets (you know the type). Followed by a bloke on this old thing wearing a high vis. They only stopped by briefly and then shot off, I finished my brew and headed in the same direction. After catching up with them they were cruising along so I overtook. Got to the next straight and one of the BMWs came wailing past with the old bike then overtook a lorry round a bend and almost got cleaned up. I was already doing an acceptable speed when they came past me. So I followed them into the next set of bends and gained a bit of ground (not trying to just riding my ride) Got up towards a big roundabout where it slows to a 40, one beamer and old bike in front and the other beamer right behind me. The old guy then pulled to the centre of the road and started looking in his mirrors slowing down. I thought he was waiting for his other friend so I passed him on the left leaving him loads of space. Got to the roundabout and he pulls up right next to me and starts having a go! "What's your game?" and started telling me off for undertaking when him and his mate nearly got squished half a mile ago by an oncoming car! I understand that passing on the left isn't highway code but he was looking at me in his mirrors and giving me so much room to come past. I don't like to think I've upset another biker but some people seem to think its all a competition. If I wanted to lose these dickheads I'd of done it without thinking but was just out enjoying my new bike. Any thoughts fellow bladers?
Would avoid undertaking but doesn't sound like you did to much wrong when they were out abusing the highways anyway! And if he was checking mirrors and had seen you not to bad..
just wondered if I was going mad or if all bikers are like this? didn't want to think that all the track riding had made me wreckless i.e. passing on the left
Yes you were wrong to undertake, but then he was wrong to go drifting off to the centre of the road. Sh!t happens though.
Aye and done a burnout on the fuckers face what a dickhead guess he thought he owned road ,forget him and let him come a cropper which he will
At the end of the day, you have to ride your own ride in what is the safest way that you see fit at any given moment. If he was dicking about in the centre of the road and potentially causing you to constantly adjust your positioning because you were uncertain of his actions, then "undertaking" him in a safe manner is your way of keeping yourself safe on the road. When we do our bike test, we are told to "make progress" where possible, which he was preventing you doing by his riding erratically. You weren't part of his riding party and he should have been more courteous and thoughtful of other road users.. Knobber....
I always ignore idiots that try and show off, do your own thing mate. But, I am still with Matt to a point and despite being known for being a placid kind of chap ! I wouldn't have stood for that attitude.
Fcuk em dude, wouldn't worry about them.... Years ago I once had a play with a dude on a 1000cc on my vfr400 (was young and reckless then ).... Went past him on the bends for him to gun me, happened a few times when he came back a third time to give me the wakner wave He did look a bit uncomfortable when I caught up again and we sat next to each other at the next lights - me laughing at him..... Hindsight undertake might of bit been perfect, but as said, ride ya own ride mate....
I imagine that they didn't like been overtaken or passed. All the gear, no idea and want to be seen to be the fastest on the road. Put them on the track and then see what happens. Bloody tossers.
