Took out the back wheel yesterday and wanna remove the shock at the same time however I notice the linkage bolt all go though from the exhaust side so there's not enough room to extract the bolts. Don't need to remove the linkage but I do want the exhaust out. Am I missing something or will I have to pull the exhaust too?
I don't think you need to remove it completely though. I'm sure I read someone just undone the clamps and fixing points to twist it out I the way a bit.
It's straight forward to do; Either place the bike up on an Abba stand or if you don't have one but have rearsets, place a car axle stands under each rearset as this unloads the suspension. Loosen off the exhaust clamp Remove the securing bolt to the hanging bracket and you can move the exhaust out of the way, if you want to remove it completely you'll have to undo the exhaust servo cable . Now it's just a case of undo the securing bolts for the shock and removing it, take your time as it can be awak to get out and in without marking anything.
I've dropped shocks out of both my RR6 and my mates 09 and didn't touch the exhausts and only took about 30 minutes to do complete change !
Thanks for the Vid, though is makes me cringe the way he chucks that ttx around!. Just bought a new OEM shock too off BladeRR8, gonna fit it when the salt is all clear off the roads
whilst you have the shock off, take the suspension linkage apart and clean then regrease the bearings as they are a bit dry from nthe factory
Cheers for the advice peeps, I have now purchased an Arrow GP2, so it'll have to come off anyway. I suppose it makes it easier to put the bolts in the other way around so next time the access is easier for regreasing the linkage etc?
Following all your advice I decided to 'have a look'. 45 min later the exhaust was off, the linkage was stripped down for regreasing (it was dry but at least it was free), and the shock out and on the floor. Cheers all. Worse part looked to be getting the exhaust clamp off as it was seriously rusty but as I was twisting off the nut the clamp snapped in half.
