Yesterday was a productive day... a day off work to get a couple of jobs done on the bike. Typically forecast was to absolutely piss down all morning... followed by sunshine from about 11am! So 9am in waterproofs I set off ... first up Invisible Patterns in Goldbourne: http://www.invisiblepatterns.co.uk/ When I purchased the ventureshield kit I struggled with the nose cone area due to it's complex shape despite having fitted a few of these kits before hence after several hours of trying to fit the nose cone I gave up ... contacted Russ @ Invisible Patterns and he offered to sort it in an hour. Arrived soaking wet to be greeted and directed to a warm waiting room to dry my kit out and a brew and had a good chat to give Russ a heads up that I was extremely fussy. ... left Russ to get on with it whilst I caught up with emails. An hour later all done ... Russ had also fitted the mudguard areas I missed off and also cut me a piece of ventureshield for the tank pad area that I keep scuffing... job done and very pleased with the effort. Next time I will just give him the bike and let him sort the lot ... highly recommended! Whilst there I got an email from Vicky @ FW Developments asking if I could get up to them ASAP due to a heavy workload (they were running in BSB bikes on the dynos that needed shipping off to Spain today for testing) ... so with the rain given off a bit I head up towards Preston and arrived around 11.30am. Bit wet (again) but coffee waiting and had a chat with Frank about the issues with the bike since the Yoshimura was fitted and off he went... 3hrs later it was all done. It needed a full custom map to get the most out of it. http://www.fwdevelopments.com/ 174bhp @ rear wheel and 86lbft with importantly some proper midrange stomp ... the bike has been tuned for super smooth throttle and midrange rather than peak numbers. Happy with that... the sun was out and the roads nearly dry so had a play... mega mega impressed with the delivery and throttle response now. Worth every penny... Last stop... KAIS Suspension (again) ... after doing a couple thousand miles on the bike on a variety of roads I felt the suspension wasn't as plush as it could be ... dropped Johnno a line and told him I was on my way over... 45 mins later I'm in Atherton having a chat with Andy and they said a couple clicks from rebound and compression should sort it as the bike handled perfectly ... it made all the difference. http://www.kais-ohlins.co.uk/ It really does feel like riding a different bike... it is super smooth, with relentless grunt all the way through the rev range. It feels refined and I feel so much more comfortable and relaxed on the bike... this morning into work I was smiling for the first time since I bought the Fireblade. It feels 'right' ...
I should have got them to do the venture shield on my R1 - I got 95% of it fine, but the nose cone on the R1 is a pig of a job. It would also avoid constant ribbing from Moz (formerly of this forum) about the bits peeling off round the lights etc. Kais are top notch to sort your bike - I've had the same 'this feels like a new bike' experience leaving them when I had a new shock fitted (twice now infact hence why its known as Trigger!)
174bhp at the rear wheel? That equates to around 200bhp at the flywheel- that's very impressive! What's been done to the engine to get that?
I'm not sure myself... would say more like 190bhp @ engine? It's had full custom remap with PCV5 and Yoshimura R77 (no baffle) ... The 2010RRA onwards seem to make a bit more power than the early 08-09 models for some reason hence why the base maps from Dynojet do not work very well (mine felt terrible) ... although saying that my bike made 169bhp @ rear wheel with PCV5 and the exhaust valve disconnected. 163bhp @ rear wheel is typical for a standard 2010> bike according to a few sources. So it made 6bhp with the PCV5 and exhaust valve disconnected, and a further 5bhp with the Yoshimura and custom map. Importantly the increase from the Yoshimura is all the way through the rev range which is pretty damn impressive! All done on same dyno so good for comparison. I've sent this map to a couple of people so will be interested to hear their comments on it.

That's an incredible power hike from a PCV/Exhaust and a re-map. Good to know the later engines are a lot more tuneable than the earlier ones.
