Long time no post...need some help with insurance. Short version... blade got nicked about this time last year. Insurance paid out, bought another bike. I'm now keeping my bike at a mate's place (he has a garage). I'm having real trouble finding insurance. 37 (oh god), 10years NCB (yay protection!), full licence for 15 years, living in a flat in London with the bike at a different postcode. Yes, I know it's not ideal and my best bet is moving house Anyone got any recommendations for a broker/company that might be able to help? Bikesure said no, Carole Nash said no... I'm waiting on a quote back from Swinton. Any assistance gratefully received...!
I've always used MCE......... Best if you give them a call though, as they're pretty understanding when it comes to bikes and where they're stored. If you do on online quote, it doesn't give you much opportunity to explain your situation. http://www.mceinsurance.com/ I only returned to bikes about four years ago with a short spell on a ZX6R and then jumped up to a blade a year later, I got fully comp for £340 which I thought was pretty good with just one years no claims bonus. I am a little older than yourself though (Not sure if that's a good thing with insurance or not.....LOL).
Found these on the Audi TT forum when looking for a quote for my car, was £30 cheaper than anyone else worth a shot, you have to call them though http://www.chrisknott.co.uk/
I use bennetts and paying under £200. Fully comp, 37yo, 8 years NCB, 8 Years riding, Town center postcode. Ok not london but worth a try
Try simply Insurance, seem quite human on the phone, some have luck with one company like Bennett's, but I didn't, renewal up 11 x then online with them, double last year. Just have to shop around.
Just say it's stored at your place and see what the quote is? If it's OK then go ahead and store the Bike at ya mates anyway! How will they know or care where it's kept, they're only interested if U put a claim in. If it did happen to get nicked from ya mates Garage then you were just staying over that night and shit happens. Insurance Co's can't stop you going on Holiday with your vehicle or 'staying over at a friends' for a few days and not expect your chosen mode of transport not to be outside said location overnight!
you need to be honest with your insurance company / broker or should the worst happen its fair grounds to decline the claim on the basis the policy was not issued on the true situation (even though in this example storing the bike in a locked garage is more secure). It will all come down to an underwriter who understands the risk and can endorse the policy to reflect it - also what is the insurable interest of the owner of the garage I am sure you won't be the first person to need to do this so there will be insurer willing to quote you. Sorry I sound a nerd, but my employer has paid out the largest car theft claim ever made which is public knowledge / used in advertising and one of the longest running mysteries of a heist
We paid out (and therefore own) for one of James Bond's original Aston Martin DB5 cars back in 1997 stolen without trace from an storage hangar in Florida
Enough clues / leads here with a bit of google to work out who paid out: http://www.autoblog.com/2014/09/28/james-bond-goldfinger-aston-martin-db5-stolen-video/
