    Ladies/Gents,

I need your thoughts, I am pondering and been given the go ahead (but still making me feel extremely guilty) from my Wife to buy a Honda FireBlade SP as an investment. The reason is I can imagine the FireBlade will go through a big make over soon and the SP could be the last of the desirable FireBlades without electronics etc.

Question is :- is a Motorcycle a sound investment compared with a buy to let or even Wine or Antiques?

Down side:- I would no longer have a motorcycle to ride on the Road , I would have to finance the SP over four years, I anticipate it would be around ten years before it's value increases, how long can my will power last before I am tempted to take it out for a good ragging?

Plus side:- I have a fireBlade SP

Good question that but hard to answer.

Can see your logic, you only have to look back at the value of the last made 2 stokes to see that and the likes of the SP1 & 2 Bikes.

But as a pure investment, albeit at a far higher price will always be property.

Bikes for me are a addictive hobby and I couldn't sit and look at my only Bike, it would only work if I had others to play on.
I fancy an Aprilia RS250 at some point but at the mo can't justify £5K sat in the Garage looking nice.

Arthur, that Aprilia is gorgeous and Sine this is the dilemma!! In terms of insurance I have enquired £230 fully comp limited mileage, helmet leathers, legal cover and breakdown or £400 as a garage ornament so no brainer really.

So that exacerbates the temptation to take it out on a nice day. Plus the Wife started pointing things out that needs doing to the house (as they do). Plus my red Anniversary blade is nearly paid off. We all know how great it makes you feel when your bike is paid off.

But FireBlade SP is still very tempting.

Life is short mate, do what you feel is right in your heart, as for the wife...that's a tricky one...lol My girl loves the bikes, she want that RSV4 in the front room WITH the honda, but then I have to pay for the prilla! lol

As mentioned, not sure I could have a bike and not ride it.

The SP's are very nice though, so if you do go for it is there an option to get another cheap bike?

Suns out today, I'll be on my old 929- Still puts a huge grin on my face

You could spend all that money never ride it and it could be worth nothing in years to come, I don't think its worth the risk myself.
Especially if you have to finance it for the next 4 years and suffer without another bike!
If you could afford to spend the cash outright and it not affect you socially or financially then maybe worth the risk.

What's an investment and for who ?

You buy keep and cherish because you have the passion! Then one day your time is up and the vultures sell your pride and joy as quickly as possible, with parting words "he loved that bike" :)

I just love how your trying to justify the purchase lol. If you want to make money on your £15k, invest it in shares or something like that. If you want to invest in something that puts a smile on your face every day, buy the SP and enjoy it.

I did something very similar, dipped my toe into Porsche ownership in 2003, bought a 6mth old fully spec'd up Boxster, but it had 13k on the clock, spent 16mths of ownership trying to keep the mileage down so I didn't lose money come resale time. It was just a garage ornament. Next time round, I bought a fully spec'd up 7mth old 3.4 Boxster S, 1200 miles on the clock, drove it at every opportunity, loved every minute, but lost £12k in 20mths. Now I'm pretty much skint and riding round on a 16year old bike, but love every minute.

Moral of the story, buy what you can afford and enjoy it and the memories that purchase creates.

as an investment it won't make any money.it's a limited edition bike, but not overly desirable.even if you kept it in it's crate for 15 yrs.

it has no racing pedigree,it's just a fireblade with a few extra's on it,nothing you couldn't do to any fireblade.

if your looking for an investment, the R1M would be the way to go atm, very limited numbers and in 10 yrs a mint oe would only go up in value I suspect.

or look into an already classic bike, find a mint sp1 and crate it up for 10 yrs, these are only going up in value atm,and they do have some racing pedigree.

personnaly,as boring as it sounds,if you just want to make some money, stick it in a stocks+shares ISA for 10 yrs.

I agree finding a used desirable bike - Original Urban Tiger blade for example springs to mind if you can find one.

Bit like an original, pop up headlight manual Honda NSX, these went down to £15k 10 years ago, now they are around the £30k mark and rising. Other NSX also rising but not to same % as the early cars.

Get it bought, once you've ridden the SP you won't be wanting to keep it in the garage, trust me.
Had bad accident on mine last year total repair bill came to £9500 but insurance company didn't write it off due to the fact only 75 of the ABS model came to the UK and replacing it at the time would of been impossible, so some rarity there.
    As an investment who knows!

image.jpg image.jpg Agree with a lot of the above ,I bought as an investment but realistically I don't think it will go up that much ,not as tho they sold them straight away so in my eyes they ain't that special, agree with scooby just a blade modded up but I know when I open the door in the summer house it's there and brings. A smile to your face.had I not been in the position to own a few bikes I would not have got it knowing I had not another bike to ride so pretty lucky in that respect, not bragging but I don't smoke or drink so I work hard to get bikes it's my passion since I was young, when I go I suppose someone will benefit from my collection,

The only thing I disagree on is some people think the SP doesn't bare the same desirability of SP1/2s or R1Ms etc. I think the SP blade is very desirable and in 15-20 years a zero miler would be worth a lot of Money.

no as desirable as the R1M? how many R1M's will you see sitting In the showroom waiting to be sold?

in 15-20 yrs a zero miler wont be worth as much as that money invested for 15 or 20 yrs will be though, thats the big difference.
