Honda has announced it will run the new Civic Type R for the upcoming British Touring Car Championship season and the car's new livery will be officially unveiled next week.

Honda Yuasa Racing say they have been developing the car from scratch since September, with production beginning in November, as the team worked closely with the Honda UK plant in Swindon.

The new Civic Type R is expected to pack a 350bhp punch with 400Nm of torque, along with an all-new downforce and aerodynamics package. The result of all the developments has given Honda Yuasa Racing technical director Barry Plowman one objective: to win races in 2015.

“We cannot wait for the new season to start. Our car for 2015 is going to win races,” Plowman said. “The shape of the new road going Civic Type R has allowed the team to build on the design and take it forward to be a championship winning car.

“2015 is widely being billed as the year Honda is back and we are continuing that in to BTCC. We've worked hard over the winter to ensure we have a winning car for 2015.”

The team enter the new season with an unchanged driver line-up of Gordon Shedden and Matt Neal for the sixth consecutive season.

“We are as excited as anybody to start running the Civic Type R, which is a massive step forward from last year's Tourer – from the engine to the handling and aerodynamics,” Neal beamed.

2012 BTCC champion Shedden is full of confidence approaching the new season and has been delighted with the new Honda.

“The Civic Type R is an iconic car. We are champing at the bit to get this distinctive, aggressive looking car out on the track,” Shedden said. “It's going to stand out and cause a real stir on the track. Especially when we clean up in the championship.”

The Honda Civic Type R will be officially revealed with its 2015 livery at the BTCC media day at Donington Park on the 24th March.

Colour scheme looks great to me. Although it would obviously look better (and be faster) in Repsol colours... ;)
