Right chaps. I know this has come up a lot before, but a fresh view never hurts... I'm thinking of buying some Metzeller M7rr' as everyone one seems to be really rating them, but I'm toying with this 55 profile idea ! Has everyone that is using a 55 loving it and sticking with them ?? What is the height difference with regards to clearance from your hugger ? (my 50's are pretty close as it is) What benefit have you found ? Do you keep the standard front profile ? Thank you in advance guys... I'm itching to hit the "buy it now" button but feeling indecisive about the profile choice...
To be honest, I can't feel a difference.... Apart from you need to lean the bike over more to rid the chicken strips, and the speedos more accurate.......which is enough reason to stick with them. No difference in grip for me dude, the 50 feels just as good.
55 has a more rounded profile, easier to tip the bike into corners. The 50 profile feels like a 55 profile tyre that has done 5 thousand motorway miles and is been squared off and is horrid to turn in. I run a 55 and always will, unless I can get a 60 profile to fit.
Yes I run a 55 now but chicken strips are harder to shift certainly but if your going on track then that extra rubber on the edge is very welcome
The 55 will give u a quicker turn in to corners, although I think you'll have clearance issues with your powerbronze hugger. No need to change the front profile, you'll feel the difference just by changing the rear.
This may help with the gearing change, I've put in the 55 tyre in the yellow http://www.gearingcommander.com/
Would be the easy solution Steve but then id have a gap all around the base of the hugger between the swing arm and my ocd wouldn't be able to handle that ! Id have to make a solid carbon spacer plate to go right round or something, which would be fun
I have Pirelli 55 DRC on the rear. I have a 2009 blade with a dark red genuine Honda hugger on. I had to put some washers on and get longer bolts; the tyre was very nearly touching the hugger. It is now perfect and the bike feels a lot better. I would never go back to a 50.
See your over complicating it! Use Screen trim if you do have a gap. You might be surprised at not need washers anyway
I've the 55 Metzeler on mine and there is not much clearance.. But enough! Looks tight but I also would not go back to 50.. 55 just seems to ride and turn better. 100% agree with the chicken strips though.. You need a track day to get rid haha
Right, seems fairly unanimous then... That'll do for me, just order a fresh set of Metz M7rr's with a 55
