Had them both 06/08 and i think both top bikes great handling but the 06 was lacking power both against the 08 but also with the crop of bikes at the time
Against what Giv? it stomped the 07 R1 into the weeds, had the same power as the k7 gsxr, only the kwak had more power but that was as useable as a chocolate fireguard, and couldnt hold a line to save its life. Thats why the 07 blade was as good as it was, useable power, fantastic handling (when set up) and looked superb. Many of the mags still rate the 07 blade as the best blade ever.
I tried the 08 and the 06 and personally I did not find too much difference between them on a test ride, albeit it was only about 15 miles. I preferred the look of the 06 and still do. I decided to spend the extra cash on upgrading the 06. As far as perormance goes, some figures show 3.3 bhp extra on the 08 and an increase of top speed of 1 mph. I understand there may be a bit more lower down grunt on the 08. I never keep my bikes standard so the performance differences are so small they were not a factor for me. I also have a big preference for underseat exhausts, so that made the choice easy. I personally think the 06 looks quite distinctive.
The 08 is smaller and handles a lot better IMO .. I found the 07 a lot bigger than my 600 and i could feel it was a litre bike but the 2011 did not feel much different than my 600 and if it was not for the engine noise i wouldn't know i wasn't sat on a 600
the 07 i had was my first blade and i loved it. surprised how much mid range it had and really felt stable and flickable. i,m now on an 11 plate blade and it feels even better and a fair bit smaller but what i noticed most was the bigger kick in power from 5-6 k upwards. if it wasnt for a change in financial circumstances for the better i would of still had it and would be grinning like a kid at xmas every time i took it out.
Thought I,d just ask a question while we,re slugging it out over 04/5 n 06/7 grunt and top wack?..............has anyone had their 06 Dyno,ed Standard and with a few mods??,I,ve had mine run up 3 times ,2 times at the same place and 1 time elsewhere. The largest gain so far has been 7bhp over stock .So the question is...............what is "Real World Stock BHP" from a 06/7 Blade??Theres loads wrote and published in mags etc but they tend to just reproduce figures they,ve been given dont they?
Yes 04/05's make 156-158ish 06/07 make 158-162ish, you gain a LOT with a full system, filter, open ram air, mapping and stacks, my 07 was one of the best (well it would be) I've taken to dyno and I have taken around 25 06-07's it makes 172-176 depending on the day, its been on three dyno's and lowest has been 170, best 176. Imo the change from stock to full akra etc was like a whole new bike, yes the RR8 is better imo its better all round just a little sharper here and there but it all adds up to a better bike and as the others say it does feel like a 600 with 1000 power! I would give the RR8+ 10/10 but 7/10 for looks....lol As for 04-05 they were over geared for sure, felt much like a sports touring bike, super smooth but still FAST! They named it the gentleman's express and it got a bad name for being toooo smoooth when others like the GSXR and R1 were an animal! A superbike should be just that SUPER and the 05's were too smooth for its own good..
Thanks for all the info guys. I passed it on today and he finally decided that he would go for a 07 blade. Ten minutes later he came back and told me he'd bought a 07 hrc model with 4400 miles on the clock, full akrapovic exhaust, pc3 and all tuned in. It looks mint. Now all he has to do is wait till it arrives. He's champing at the bit
It really is a cracking looking bike. With the full akra and powercommander it really should b the business. Don't know if it has the flapper mod done to it, if not that'll be the first mod to it no doubt.
Yeah full system, filter, flapper/intake, pair while your there (in case of Autotune and ease of remap) she will fly, bet he dont need more power..
What did he give for it and dealer or private, I'm guessing dealer by the fact it's being delivered!!!
I want a full system for my rr5. Dose anyone know if the cat is part of the downpipes or is it seperate? If its seperate I wouldnt mind getting a bit of pipe to replace it.
Yes it is, but you could cut it out... I can not remember on the 05 but on the 06+ there are two cats one by the footrest and another I think in the down pipes seems that they just needed to nip it through Eurobull by trimming out the last few carbons.. The 06+ systems do fit the 04/5 I think you will find but its the fairing that needs modding..
Roughly same as mine, on FW dyno and his mobile BSB dyno it read 176.3 and 177.8 respectively, ive seen them go from 156-160 as standard, but as Arthur says they react really well to simple mods.
