I knocked out a couple of hundred miles of B roads today with a couple of brews at a couple of my regular stops with a couple of chocolate bars, (other forms of confectioneries are available) when a arrived home a had a couple of aching wrists, arms and kneck muscles for my pleasure but pleasure it was. At one stage a lovely looking M3 came up behind on a duel carriageway section and flashed me to move over, I was already moving in a progressive manor ( at the national speed limit) however I moved over and he floored it. Now I'm not the quickest of riders but this was a straight road so I metophorically floored it to and guess what, i reaced the next round about before him and then found out how good my ABS really is. It's is also noteworthy that he, unlike me, didn't need to wash his metorforical pants. I won't do that again! Anyway bike washed and tucked up, a good day today.
That's why it's a good idea to keep your hand in and find any old excuse for a ride, keeps those aches at bay. The real question is, how much of a gap did you make against the M3?
I was riding back From Wellington on the A38 one Saturday morning. It's been virtually bypassed by the M5 for years and there was literally nothing around. I lapsed into lazy, autopilot and drifted into the outside lane (at the national speed limit) to take full advantage of the sight lines and run off. After a few minutes, a Golf GTi blew past me on my left at silly speed. Sweet Zombie Jesus! Instant cure for an impacted bowel. Totally my fault, not checking my six, not positioned correctly, not paying attention, and just drifted into graveyard corner. When I visit back 'what could have been', I tend to fixate on 'what if I'd slid back into the inside lane as he undertook me' Our combined speed would have made me a statistic for sure.
Ride rusty Carl, in which case I must be ride seized solid...........mines still on axle stands and not turned a wheel since last autumn, not though any lack of wanting to get out there, more a case of far to much other stuff going on at the moment that the "motorcycle me time" has had to take last place in the pecking order. We must get together for a chin wag soon mate.
I'm with freedom on this one, short of oil service, fitting a exhaust and rear shock to mine all Ive done is shove her around to reduce bearing bedding. i will get out on her eventually. I'm already mindful that i will be in so much pain and so rusty, i will be taking it more steady then my normal slow speeds.
I too have not ridden as much this year due to work and family commitments, you should have seen me with my worn dunlop D212 on today in the pouring rain lol, fast I was not ;-) but Mot needed doing as ran out today, I really must get some proper wet weather road tyres
That would be good David, it's been a traumatic couple of weeks so a chat would be good, my factory burnt down last week That would be good David, wheels is for a brew when you get the bike off of its padock stands
I had to get out Simon, as you know my factory burned down last weekend and the bike keeps my mind busy, especially on the corners
Yeah saw your factory Carl, a right mess, glad everyone ok, and bikes are great for taking your mind off other stuff for sure
Jesus Carl, what do we keep telling you about playing with matches. If I get a minute I will give you a call later.
