Greetings Am booked in with JHS Racing tomorrow to get a custom map done on my RR7... I felt the need as I have fitted PC5, Akra slip-on, K&Ns, removed the flapper, removed PAIR, and opened up the air intake. Although I have removable baffle and a map switch, due to unforeseen expenditures I've had to opt for just a single map for now. Having never had a bike custom mapped, are there any concerns/considerations I need to think about? I think I'm after smoothness over outright power. Should I get it mapped for baffle-in or baffle-out? I'm quite handy with Excel, so am thinking I could create the "missing" map for myself by comparing the JHS map with the Dynojet-supplied standard maps, and making the same adjustments (if that makes sense?!?!)
i had my09 custom mapped on saturday, i just asked for as good as it can be, ie. smooth right through the rev range. the extra horses was the added bonus Daz Ps, the map for my bike exhaust and 02 eliminator off dynojet website was without doubt a complete bag o tits, some are good and some are not worth downloading apparently. the difference to the bike pre and post custom mapping is night and day, am well impressed
yes.. just let the guy do his thing with the baffle out! you probably run the bike with it out most of the time anyways...? I've had 3 maps done now, and haven't stipulated what I wanted.. just said do your stuff.. they map the Air / fuel ratio and get the bike as smooth throughout the rev range.. and the horses usually come along as most bikes (certainly mine) are running a little lean. you'll really notice the difference in the bike afterwards..
I've generally ran with the baffle in, mainly because it runs better... but I guess the mapping will cure that! My only concern is that I occasionally do trackdays at Castle Combe, and not totally convinced it would pass the noise regs with baffle out
you will only lose 5-10bhp with the baffle in at most, so if you do most of your riding elsewhere from the Doom, go for without
All done, mapped with baffle out, 149.62hp @ 11500rpm, which I gather is pretty much on the money for an 8 year old blade with slip-on and K&Ns. It's not much fun listening to your pride and joy being ragged to f&%* on a dyno though
Bring a USB stick with you and ask the tech to download all the runs onto it. If you like to analyse stuff you can put all the data into the Winpep (Dynjoet software) and compare the before and after results. If you can also ask for the AFR map too then you can see the best AFR at each of the TPS/RPM segment.
