I got told you have to be over 16 to buy petrol and with a lid on they can't verify you are... any excuse..

I was told at my local garage they were getting drive off without paying for fuel so it was so they could recognise you, b**llocks!! they have your reg plate on camera anyway, like others I stopped using it.

i had an argument with the garage forecourt manager at morrisons over this .. i was at a pay at the pump dispenser that you have to pre pay for your fuel with a card before it is dispensed.
i had put my card in and put in my pin but they wouldn't turn the pump on.
i went in to ask why and he said," it was incase i was going to rob the place." i said if you had turned the pump on i wouldn't have come into the paying kiosk at all ,so you have just put yourself at more risk ..and if i was going to rob the place i would hardly put my card and details into a card machine first !
I also mentioned to him about the "burka" thing too or if he would ask someone to remove a baseball cap and sunglasses before getting fuel.

maybe we should form a "The church of holly bikers" then our helmets can become religious items and can not be asked to remove them just for petrol ;)

Although having said that, I have not asked to remove yet

Glad to see I'm not on my own then,do we know if any of the big petroleum suppliers have put this legislation forward or is it down to each individual petrol station to start demanding helmet removal..

Yep - this winds me up no end. I usually stop going to petrol stations if I get abuse from staff over wearing my lid.

It would be interesting to what would happen if you removed your lid after the tannoy announcement of shame & you were wearing a hijab or winter balaclava underneath. Their reasons are mainly given as being able to ID you re ride offs....so would they then ask you to remove these? I think not! Plus the main big money drive offs are in cars or vans with extra tanks for the purpose & not £17 bike top ups. Its not too bad up here I v rarely get asked to remove it but if I do I just go and take my custom elsewhere simples!

Would they ask a disfigured person to reveal themselves if they preferred not to.
    ..................................................
In reality I think a lot is to do with they don't really want us, you can serve a car driver in less time with £70.00p worth of fuel. than a biker messing with gloves etc takes to pour 10 quids worth.
Perhaps the solution is when asked, if its busy take plenty time, take your helmet off, use the opportunity to clean the visor, adjust the strap, think Health and Safety.

If I am asked to remove my helmet; I will quickly put a burka on, before I get to the till. That will put a cat amonst the pidgeons!!

What u do if asked to remove ya lid is only fuel up at busy times then when at the checkout and having paid then proceed to take a very long time at the till putting ya balaclava and lid and gloves back on whilst letting the que build up.

They'll soon get pissed off with it

Had it happen to me some years ago at a local Esso station, I was told it was because of the number of drive offs by bikers not paying for fuel, of course car drivers don't do that . Boycotted Esso ever since.
