    Hi,

I rode to work on Friday on my RR4. No problems. Parked it in the company underground car park. Came back late to find the bike wouldn't run in gear. Investigated and found the side stand handing off. One bolt missing. I've replaced the bolt and tightened up the other but bike still won't run in gear. I took the lead off at the bottom and connected the two wires. Still wouldn't run in gear. Does anyone have any ideas what is going on ?

Initially it sounded like your side stand switch had misaligned.
Are you saying that you shorted out the connector that the side stand switch plugs in to and it still won't run?

I put the two wires together and separated them to try both alternatives. Neither option made a difference.

When you say misaligned what do you mean?

The switch part bolts to the side stand itself, but there is a locating lug that lines up with the stand to short the cable out when in the up position. So if you short out the 2 wires in place of the switch then it replicates the stand being up and should start. If it still cuts out when selecting gear then there's a deeper problem causing the issue.
