Just been in touch with Parkitt Racing to get some prices on uprating the forks on my RR6 to go with an Ohlins rear I just bought. The following stages add up on a step by step basis i.e. 1, 2 & 3 would cost me £292, plus another £259-300 if I add stage 4. 1)Standard Service to freshen the forks up. £112 2)Weight matched springs £85 3)Aftermarket flow valves (compression adjusters) £95 (inc labour to fit) 4)Aftrermarket Re-Vlave kit £259 inc fitting for one type and £300 inc fitting for another type. My question is, how much of a difference would step 3 & 4 add, as I'm considering 1 & 2?
My advice is to get the forks set up properly with the standard internals first. Then once you've run out of adjustment with the stock stuff, then look at upgrading.
Thanks gents. How about the second hand Ohlins rear shock then. Should I get that serviced as a matter of course, or should I just fit it and get it setup at the track?
Gary, I thought you had been through all this last year with parkitt and other suspension companies over on the TDR forum where you basically got same responses as above?
I had standard suspension last year, but never found out from Parkitt what stages were available for the front. Now I've got a better rear shock I have to be more open to what can be done to the front to match it so I don't end up with loads of confidence in the rear, but none in the front.
I got my Ohlins shock second hand from eBay a couple of years back. First thing I did was sent it to PDQ and got it serviced. When it arrived back, there was a wee back full of the items they had changed (o-rings, glide rings etc). Then went and got the suspension set up and it made such a difference for road riding. Been using the blade on track lately and haven't found the need to adjust anything for the track!
Hurry up then Gary, less then two weeks mate I bought a new rear Ohlins shock, had the spring set for my weight, then took the forks off and had them serviced, plus re-shimed, upgraded valves from k-tech, new srpings to match my weight, plus new seals too I got the track guys to set up the bike on a track day last year, £45 and you can go back all day until it feels awesome bikes feels good, I do adjust the preload rear a little for road and drop the compression front slightly for road also, only because uk roads are crap compared to track So yeah I would get rear serviced and set up for weight, and same for front see you on the 22nd
