How are you guys recording lap times on track days and what options do I have? I have always done focused chrono events which they email your times after a few days but I think other companies don't do this? I would like to see if I can beat my times but book the day with someone else
I have a qstarz lap recorder. Does 10hz so pretty accurate. Others use Starlane etc, but mine is a cheap solution. If you have an old mobile you could use racechrono.
Like this one? http://www.bikersdiscountstore.co.uk/qstarz-gps-lap-timing/qstarz/qstarz-bt-q1000ex-10hz-pd-138.php
QStarz for me too bought through Bikers Discount Store. Just secure it in the tail unit switch it on and forget about it.
Try the http://www.dashware.net App on your smart phone. If you have a decent GPS signal then it can import data to your onboard videos too
I used the qStarz unit with Race Chrono on my iPhone 3gs and it was very hit and miss at Cadwell Park. I used the 818XT though which isn't recommended by any of the lap timer apps. I'm thinking a proper investment is in order for me, something that maps the laps etc. like a V Box from Racelogic.
if you want live lap times/data then the aim solo is your best bet, heard a few stories of the starlane not working properly. if you want to know your times afterwards, then the q-starz bt1000 (I think) is very good, very small unit that automaticly logs your laps, and the software is good for the money, and easy to use.i have both.oh and a GPS dash
I just want something I can look at lunch time or later when I get home to see how I've done, I don't have a GPS dash though so the device will need to have GPS
yea you don't need a GPS dash,i'm just greedy the qstarz bt1000ex will do fine then, just d/load the info when you get home,or take your laptop for some lunch time viewing.they can be had for under £100 or an aim solo for around 200-250 2nd hand or 300 new.
The aim solo looks good, how are you guys attaching it to your bikes? Found it here for £230 +p&p http://www.wheelup.it/gb_en/motorcy...6TstBkR0KdpKT8yksmtaI6EeSEUaApYA8P8HAQ&lndg=x
I am a little confused with a conversation I've had with no limits, I originally asked them if they can record lap times which they said no as this counts as testing which means the insurance is different. I kind of understand this but focused events do it on choro days when they give you the transponder? So I then asked no limits is it OK for me to bring my own GPS type lap timer and they said no due to the insurance again. I'm sure you guys that have done many track days with all the companies would be able to shed some light on this for me? Do you just bring your own timers and not tell them or something? I don't understand I want to be able tell my lap times to see if or how faster I am, if the only option is focussed chrono days then so be it but I would like the option of different tracks on different dates with other companies so I have more to choose from
Officially Lap timers are not allowed on trackdays and the trackday company is obliged to make an attempt to stop people using lap timers. However, if they don't know about it being used... The beam sensors that people have tried to use are regularly taken off the pit wall, hence why people have gone to discrete GPS timers. I have a PZ Racing GPS laptimer (that I use on race weekend test days ) It just tells me what I already know; that I'm not bloody fast enough
tbh it's nothing to do with the TDO,it's the track itself.i've never known anyone to be told to remove their lap timer from a TDO,it's the track officials in pit lane that do it. as for chrono days,i suspect as the times aren't being used on the day, apart from sorting the groups out in the aft.you don't get your times until a week or so later.
That makes sence, probably how they get around using them. So obviously I would not do it but I would suspect the qstars would be easy enough to hide in the tail unit or somewhere out of view?
