Double edged sword mate. This year Mrs Ken had all kinds of chores lined up for me for when the race finished. As it turned out I was sat in front of the telly with my feet up for so long while they decided what to do, I ran out of beer.
it was a eventful year last year for road racing over here NW200: What happened - Motorcycle news : Racing news - Visordown then this Mid-Antrim cancelled after sabotage attack | Bikesport News | News and this BBC News - Portadown rider Wayne Hamilton dies at Manx Grand Prix the wife's cousin Bike racer recovers from horrific pile-up / Impartial Reporter / News / Roundup
It would be great to be there for the road race season. Much more accessible and a shitload cheaper than the island, just as subject to 'soft' weather though.
It's a great event, it doesn't get better than being in arms reach of the riders passing you at 200mph+ ...... Only problem is the weather is so hit and miss being on the coast! Sure beats the short circuits for atmosphere and the locals couldn't be any more welcoming . . . A few years back went over with my brother and got a late ferry by mistake so as it was getting late we pulled off the M1 at Newry in search for b&bs but found cock all ..... Then out of nowhere comes this local guy on a brand new R1 (was there a Kenny Roberts yellow rep one?) sees us looking lost and offers to find us a b&b for the night. . . Nearly 2hrs later and 3 tries at various locations he found us a b&b in Lisburn !! He even insisted the landlord showed him where the bikes would be kept during the night for security and insisted also he did it at a low rate! Absolute diamond bloke, best bit was he had told his mrs he was only popping to the shop for a loaf of bread and he had only got 300 miles on the clock ........
