I have Sidi street burners for when I wear my Kevlars. They have a nylon wire turnbuckle to tighten then. Nice boots with good ankle support.
I have some Alpine Stars and have worn them quite a bit, very comfy etc etc, in fact loved em, HOWEVER, I would never wear them again knowing what has happened to people legs when they come off in these. My personal choice of course, but they do not provide me with the security of any proper ankle or lower leg protection and I wont risk it again. I like walking and at my age I struggle enough with that at times, lol
I used the Alpinestars fastback - till i broke my leg just above were the boot finished last year.. they were comfy, but gore-tex woul;d have been better i think So have decided to use full height boots from now on..
Actually I agree.....I bought them for when I was just popping to shops or coffee etc...however, shortly after me mate was knocked off his bike & surgeon said he would have lost his lower leg if he'd had anything other than than high boots on! Trouble is life's full if what ifs & it starts knocking the fun out of life worrying about stuff...I prefer to adapt the 'if nowt happens it'll be feckin awesome' attitude of the guy this week who attached 100 balloons to a garden chair & floated over Calgary.... hero of the week or what
Hi I use the dainese In boot which is a good length but does not feel like a full on boot although do need leathers to match to attach.
I would like full boots eventually but I use the older Dainese leather trews with the built in shin guard armour and I don't think normal boots work with those ? Hence the shorty boots... Would love the "in" boots but new boots and leathers are a stretch at the moment. Not read too much about crashes/SMIDSY etc and not come off (yet!) what is the common scenario for legs/ankles ? Trapped under bike sliding ? Smacked into pegs etc ? Boots/trainers ripped off ?
Plenty boots which will accommodate the dainese shin guards although some need adapting. I wear Sidi Vortice but with the optional longer cable adjusters...if you can get them. Either that or trusty Adidas Samba's!! All day comfy and you can even have a kick about.
I have some Alpinestars ones that are ok, although don't wear very often as don't have the safe feel of the full boot
I've got a pair of RST Stunt short boots, the 'Heel' version with added protection...on the heel funny enough! Really comfy, I often use this when I ride to the office and keep them on all day. Lace up and Velcro strap, nice ventilation with perforated sections so keep you cool in summer. Decent protection for toes and heel but that's about all you'll get, from these and any short boot. Decent price and well made, worth a look.
Not used any RST gear, very popular and always seems good value, is it all that quality wise ? Anybody have Falco boots, these seem to have some protection features.. http://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/182836
Only other RST gear I have are summer gloves - had them about 5 years and used for road and track. They are awesome, so comfy, excellent protection and no signs of falling apart. Can't really speak for the boots as only had them for a year but appears promising so far.
Thanks, picture is useful too. I'm not 100% on whether or not to go full boots and keep my current Tcx jobbies for "light" riding duties. All opinions welcome, I happily admit to knowing very little about boots, gloves err everthing really...so pros and cons please.. I could buy some 2nd hand ebay full Sidi boots if I knew they would work with my older leather pants...or get some used "in" trousers and buy the cheapest "in" boots (which don't get great reviews compared to the ££ ones) I know it sounds a bit flakey and I should go look at some in my local bike shop..but I'm window shopping before I get my blade in Sept. Feel free to school me.. Also my buddy lent me his old R1 for a week, which was a blast and got me started on the upgrady train. Thanks !
Up to you whether you go for short boots or not really - down to personal preference. I just wanted something that offered a level of protection but meant I didn't have to wear boots all the time mainly for short trips to shops, pub, etc. As for Sidi boots, my opinion is they're overpriced for what they are and you're paying for the name. Other boots offer better protection at a lower price - Forma, Gaerne, etc. it's only when you get higher up the pricing that Sidi's offer as much protection. My opinion though!
