Mate of mine is wanting a change of tyre , told him Michelin pilot road 3 got good reviews on here off a lot of blade owners. There's also a pilot road 4 out . Anybody know the difference between them or had any experience . He doesn't have a blade but a triumph sprint st1050 , still wants a good grippy tyre that'll do a few good miles

I've been on PR4s for the past two months and have nothing but praise for their all-around capability. Seemed so safe when ridden through torrential rain a few weeks back. Their dry road handling is outstanding. Don't seem to have worn much at all in 2000 miles so wear life is looking good.

Also using PR4's and have no complaints about them but I am also not a get ya knee down kinda person either, though the old Bridgestone tyres that were on it would spin in a straight line under hard acceleration and these have not done as yet.

The PR4 front is an upgrade on the 3 to both reduce the pattern of wear and for extra wet grip...............................that's straight from the mouth of a Michelin UK tech.

As for the real world I am getting about 9 to 10K out of a set of both, and so far have not fallen off in the wet on either....so take your pick.

PR4's here too. I've not tried PR3's, but the main thing for me was the grip from cold, they're nice and soft all year round, where my track tyres harden in the cold weather. They also have the added bonus that they wear well, plus I've used them a couple of times in the wet and they cut through the water very well.
I tried them on track once, but tore the sides up as they get very hot very quickly, but again, they are not that kind of tyre, so are perfect for me on the road bike.

I put Pilot Road 4 on my Speed Triple and the rear lasted over 4000 miles - and it still had 2 ish mm left when I traded it in. As a comparision, the original Metzeler Racetec K3s were only lasting 1300 miles ish - and the bike didn't feel any different.

I've tried Pilot Power 3 on the Blade and found them fine - only got around 3000 miles out of a rear on that though (which is more than I normally get with other tyres).

Cheapest place for them is http://www.tyreleader.co.uk/

Tried Pilot Road 3's and didn't like the front tyre ... would be interested in how the 4 compares.

PR4 are great on the Blade, but not sure if the ST would have the gt version of tyres.

I've ran both on a Blade and the 4's are far better, not because they grip particularly better or last longer but because they feel better.

PR3's on my Blade felt harsh, especially at the rear as really they were designed for heavier Sports Tourers.
When the PR4 came out they altered the construction so as the standard PR4 was better suited to lighter Sports Bikes and the GT model thus better suited to heavier Sports Tourers like the ZZR1400, BMW K1300 etc etc

PR4's will also do very well at a Trackday if so required!

I'd run nowt else on the road now tbh, best all round Tyre bar none!

We used the PR3's on track on Thursday at Cadwell as it was a bit damp in the morning.

Never seen the need to change over the the racetecRR's mid session as I never had any moments at all even when pushing on later in the day.

    PR3's or 4's I don't think you'd be disappointed with either choice.

I stuck PR4s on my blade about 1000 miles ago. Adjusted the compression as per guidance from Mr OCD (I think) on here. Fab tyres. Have only had a couple of rainy days to deal with, but rain or shine, they just feel like great tyres to ride on.

PR4's for me, just done 1800 plus round the Alps and Germany with a lap of the Ring for good measure, not a hint of slip and still look new. Even fast Autobahn/motorway runs not squared them either, can't fault'em :)

    Hi Guys
Not posted for a while,I'm also running pr4s and have found them fairly ok ,I've found under hard braking the front would protest a bit by squirming around, which I don't think You would get this with a more sports focused tyre .
As for wear I will probably get just over 4k but this will be right on the wear markers and the rear has well and truly squared off.Has anyone got any feed back on the metzeler mp7rr I think they're called
    Cheers stu

I've got the M7RR's on the Blade at the moment.

Did a tour in Spain last year at a rather sprightly pace and love the tyres.

Mileage wise I'd say about 3500 on the rear, but with more abuse than I'd normally do with tyres here in the UK.

I'll be replacing like for like.

Oufff i'm really impressed to see how many of you are using PR4/PR3 on their hyper sport cbr 1000 !!!

I'm not a fan of a race track tire on the road like a lot people, but i think on a 1L bike like our, we have to put in sporty tire ( sportsmart 2/ M7RR/ rosso corsa / Racetec K3 ...) and not touring tire, to be safe and to appreciate our bike.

    isn't it......???

    Agreed.

I've used both types of tyres on sportsbikes and there is more to it than just outright grip. Feel, weight, profile, etc. to name a few... when you have sports tyres that are suited to the CBR than can average 5,000 miles or more why would you bothering installing a touring tyre designed for touring bikes? You either ride like a fanny or are being cheap... ;)

I average 12,000 miles a year on my bike... do I use touring tyres? - fuck no. That's like shagging Jennifer Love Hewitt with an inch thick jonny... :D

    :)
