I don't know about anyone else but I hate this mobile phone/go-pro camera-culture, happy slapping etc Like that "UK idiot drivers" facebook page, anyone seen that ?
If you are stupid enough to film yourself doing illegal shit, then don't show your face ?

I guess it must take a certain amount of idiocy to actually do the work for the boys in blue and hand them the evidence on a plate
May as well just give them a call beforehand and tell them that you're gonna be doing 100+ mph along a certain road if they'd like to come along and watch.

Film yourself by all means, but keep the dubious stuff private or do some editing....anyone who watches BVG/Zee's videos will notice that some blurry areas have been added every now and then.

I don't think posting video clips like that are a good idea at all..... BUT, a 9 month jail sentence (even suspended) is very OTT IMO for unknown speeds in excess of 100mph.

Maybe I've watched too many cop shows on TV where some thug in a shell suit can nick a motor, drive across 3 counties at stupid speeds and end up stuffing it into a load of parked cars. Generally they do that without a licence, certainly without insurance, and I see them walking away with a ban and maybe a supervision order.

    am I wrong?

Unfortunately you are right, it seems the closer to sticking to the law you get, the more punishment you get for breaking it.

There was a couple of things in the article I noticed.
One was the omission of how much fine was handed out...I bet it was a few quid, I've said it before, the Police and courts target those that can afford big bucks fine as they know those people will cough up the revenue, so filling the coffers of the Xmas party, whilst skint, druggie scummers who have a record of offences get as quoted above when they get caught doing similar things, as the authorities know that any fine will be paid off at a £1 a week if that as the offender will cry poverty etc etc.
The second thing was the judge pointing out the passengers pussy reaction...I'm sorry but you willingly step into a "£30,000" open top sports car, you're not, surely, going to expect it to be driven like a Rover 25 on a shopping run to Waitrose with a straw hat on the parcel shelf.
I don't personally know the road/area where the driving took place but would imagine the driver chose it so he could show his "friend" what the car could do without getting busted (unlucky).
The judges words.."that man was completely terrorised... in no way was he consenting"...by getting in the car under the circumstances...he consented...but left his balls at home..

Noticed quite a few bikes up here now have these cameras, seems to be you are just asking for trouble if you get stopped....Checked out the video, the car I think is a Ariel Atom, but it does not seem that bad.....Suppose it makes a change for a car driver to get a suspended jail sentence, they normally reserve those things for those dangerousbikers!!!!!!!!!

"Gary Simpson, Senior Crown Prosecutor with Mersey-Cheshire Crown Prosecution Service, said: “Mr Randles seems to have seen himself as some sort of Jeremy Clarkson figure, filming himself driving a high powered car at crazy speeds."

One of my films from 2009 I think has had almost 40,000 views and is rated as one of the best films of Glencoe (and it was filmed on a 4:3 Mk1 GoPro but... I made sure that was a steady ride 'just in case'

The other option is to use Vimeo where you can share films, but you have to have a password to view limiting who can see

I think there is more footage than just that clip so they probably used land marks/sign to gauge his speed as they knew what road he was on.
What would of piss the cops off is a lot of bikes overtaking him as we go on that road a lot :)

This shows you can video yourself and get good results from it - shocking editing looking back and the MK1 GoPro quality not the best but not had such perfect weather to re-create it in Full HD although I would love to.

I can understand wanting to film your ride / drive for posterity but pointing the camera at yourself and filming yourself heroically trying to scare your passenger?? The guy is obviously a nailed-on, premium grade kn*bhead.

As for how he was driving........it's honestly something that I struggle a little bit with as a biker. I enjoy a spirited ride....

.......but most people on the road are just using it for its intended purpose, ie. getting from A to B and get understandably annoyed when some guy on a bike flies past them doing double the speed limit. Behaviour that we really should leave at the track but don't. I'm as guilty as anyone but it sometimes doesn't sit well with me.

Perhaps it's time to buy myself a VFR? :D
