I've got leather track jeans and a 50/50 leather/textile Dainese jacket and a full leather jacket that I mix and match
Is that the Air Frazer jacket ? I quite like the look of that.. I use leather trousers mostly as they feel safer than my cheapy Kevlar ebay jeans. I don't get hot in them but I'm on a naked bike which helps. Jackets-I swap between a really heavy duty leather Furygan with full liner for cold and an Icon leather/textile mix which is crap quality but has zips from elbow to armpit which flow a ton of air into the jacket, right where you need it. Not sure why other companies don't offer this, safety maybe ?
I'm not sure what it's called, it's years old. The back panel and all high impact areas are leather and the front and part of the sleeves are textile. It's also got textile stretch panels down the sides under the arms.
Ah ok, thanks. Air Frazer is £60 off at the moment. I feel like a change soon, especially as I had a text convo with a mate the other day about how I caught a deal on an ebay Furygan jacket, only for him to go buy one almost exactly the same ! We probably look like a right pair of nobbers with the big matching logos on the back. Still, can't beat a bargain...
This is utter madness... no one plans to crash, but it happens.... some more than other , but it's the 1st thing that I consider when buying kit, I buy the best available / affordable to me should the worse happen.
Chap, I hear what you're saying, and I think I might have mislead my comment. What I meant to say, was that I don't envisage being thrown down a road, but I appreciate that it does happen to some riders for various reasons. But, like you, I but the best kit I can afford, 2 RST Suits, Shark & Shoei lids, Alpinestars gloves, Sidi boots, etc and I think I should have said, that regardless of my thoughts, I still buy very good kit. I'm not one those riders you see in shorts n flipflops on powerful bikes. In the very hot weather I'll always wear full kit and I take no chances. I apologise for misleading you and protraying a daft approach to riding.
In my opinion you ideally want: 2 piece leathers for summertime if you stop a lot of ride to a place for a day (i.e. watching BSB) 1 piece leathers for on track or when you are out riding you are barely off the bike. Textiles for winter/wet/cold & commuting.
When you say 'destroyed' do you mean that they are just cosmetically worse for wear but they did the job or do you mean they actually fell apart?
I looked at the Air Frazer jacket as I'm using the bike into and out of the town centre to commute at the minute, but all the sale ones I found were odd sizes.
I wear a Dianese super speed tex jacket in the summer with the additional back protector, nice piece of kit IMO
Sportsbikeshop but only £60 off the black/anthracite http://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/215382
Leathers and always a full back protector which has saved me more then one Dainese Wave always have a undergarment on which makes one pce cool and easy to get on and off ,
Have both and only recently i changed to leathers. Nice and comfortable. For protection leather is by far the best. Textiles are versatile but it is down to everyone's choice.
2 piece leathers always. I have textiles but don't use them now as I had an off 2 years ago and my RST Razor jacket was destroyed, pants were scuffed but ok. RST is great kit and very keenly priced. I had 1 piece Berik leathers 4/5 years ago and couldn't get on with the faff of getting them on and off and a nightmare if you're off the bike for more than 10 minutes.
I used to feel OK in Text till I binned it on Track in decent 1 piece leathers. Once I'd seen how much even tight fitting leathers move around and hence the armour moves too I now have little confidence in my £600 Text with armour etc 2 Piece leathers for road use now.
I have recently bought some kevlar jeans which I do use a fair bit trundling around the city, commuting, shopping or doing duty visits. I suppose my rationale is that at 30 - 40 mph, I should get sufficient abrasion protection from them and the knee and hip armour in them is quite good. If a bus was parked on top of me, even my Dianese leathers aren't going to keep me safe. They do make it a bit easier to move around the bike than my leathers do, which is nice for bimbling through traffic, but as said earlier, they are quite slippery against the saddle and the tank so I end up bracing myself with my boots and arms, not the best arrangement. Main road riding, it's my two piece leathers all the time. I would need made to measure one piece (funny shape), and despite being able to almost see BKS from my house... not on my salary... I find it uncomfortable now, not wearing the maximum amount of armour I can ride well in, and not for one minute wanting to get into the 'Right to Choose' argument (and remember, I'm old enough to have been active in the middle of the MAG anti helmet rallies of the '70s), my insight into it is this. I choose to put myself into harms way by removing myself from the crumple zoned, multi airbagged cage of my car, for the joy of riding my bike. I'm not going to compromise my flabby arse even more by not wrapping it in as much conformal armour as I can afford while I'm doing it. In my view that's like stepping into a boxing ring and leaning into any punches that are thrown at you.
The jacket could be worn again at a push but I would be worried about a second crash in it the trousers came apart on inside leg, I've never had an RTA before maybe that's acceptable damage but for such a low speed off I thought they would have held up better. As soon as I have recovered from injury I'll be on the hunt for some new leathers......but not RST.
