My new tyre only done 500 mile its a metzeler I picked up a piece of wire and iv got a slow puncture its losing about 1 to 1 and a half pounds a week took it down to protyre where I had it fitted and he wouldn't repair it he said it is illegal to repair any tyre except Michelin and I would have to have a new tyre is he right or talking bollocks
I think his choices of words, if he he used the word illegal, is wrong. As usual it depends on where the puncture is in relation to the sidewall and the size of the hole. A BS applies for repairs to motorcycle tyres that states Z rated tyres are not suitable for repair, but BS is not law just a recommendation. Michelin turn that on its head by stating their tyres including Z rated are suitable, depending on damage area, for up to 3 repairs. A lot of repairers in this modern world of litigation prefer to say no than run any risk they may feel that is attached to a repair. There again, there are plenty of repairers who will repair a tyre safely, so if its in a safe area to repair, go find one of them.
Well I have decided to have a new tyre being fitted Monday I know plenty of people have plugs and have no problem and I'm probably wasting my money but it will always be at the back of my mind that's just how I am im afraid
I had a repair done by a Honda dealers no problem, few week later did a track day that was twelve months ago absolutely fine
Burnout burnout burnout burnout burnout... Sorry. I'm a child. Such a shame to waste a tyre though....
I also believe this is only a recommendation and not a law. Your guy is suffering from a typical case of little knowledge is worse than no knowledge. The location of the puncture and the angle are critical for a possible repair. A good repair should not compromise your tyre. When a tyre shop is reluctant or not experienced to do a repair, they tend to come up with lots of nonsense. I was told that Michelin does not use steel belt compared to others and the puncture repair process can damage the steel belt. Don't know if this is true or not.
have plugged a few of my tyres and friends tyres asit,s a double seal it patches the inside and plug,s the hole,i know many bike mechanic,s that would not do it though so really saftey wise would recommend a new tyre ,as let,s face it anything can happen, and the top speed,s involved with m/cycles ,new tyre bro.
