Hi guys After my last bout of spending on the bike, mainly performance and bling mods. I'm thinking that maybe I should upgrade the suspension on my bike. Now I'm no track day goer by any sorts whatsoever. I only ride on the road and to be honest find the suspension fine but sometimes the rear a little harsh. The question is, would it be worth changing the rear shock, and getting the forks re-valved, or would I be better off saving myself the cash and trying to find a setting in the standard suspension. Thanks
Cant beat a fork re-valve and rear shock all sprung for you weight! some say most important thing to do! its not all about power a sweet handling bike is a fast one
Thanks Basts I always prefer good handling mate. I'm just in 2 minds if I actually need to get it done or not. What I'm really looking for is the suspension to be more plush if you know what I mean, while atleast handling just as good if not better.
Basically if your 10 stone above then get it done at least a fork revalve sprung eyc and a rear spring for your weight! A fancy shock of you can afford
No harm in trying it on standard kit but set up properly and then if its still not spot on get the internals done for your specs
No Colin at the moment your spring is to weak so your sag will be all round n the shock can't rebound quick enough, think you need to add possibly 2 stone on your weight for leathers etc! My plan is re spring and service n set up both ends it's about £400 roll in roll out service for Ktech. I'm same as you quick road riding and maybe the odd track day!
Most of its valving, as a rule there is only one correct spring weight for a rider, the rest of the tuning is down to valving, oil type, shims, air gap, etc etc etc..
I've set the sag. Though to be honest I think I'm in need of a new rear shock as it seems too harsh to me. I weigh between 14.5 and 15.5 stone without kit depending on the season, that's why I said around the 15.5 stone mark. £400 sounds good to me. Can u just send down the suspension to them with ur info?
Now I'm lost mate. Suspension seems like a dark art to me. Would I be better off calling a few suspension companies with my weight and riding style to see what they come up with?
If you're not that fast and you don't do a lot of trackdays, I would save your money and get a professional to set your bike up. Should cost £100 to £200, and I guarantee you will notice the improvement.
I'm a fan of the 'experiment with the settings yourself' approach. Unlike some of the older models, modern sportsbike suspension adjusters actually do make a difference!
colin take your bike to ers ducati, they are now based at knockhill circuit they do a full suspension set up service. they did my mates gixxer he thought there was a big difference. i was thinking about having mine done in the new year.
Sounds like an idea mate. Do they still have a dyno centre up there? If so I could hit 2 birds with 1 stone.
not sure about the dyno colin, they took over bob grants shop who had a dyno but there is nothing on their website to say it has been retained. sorry
No worries mate. I've got someone to tune the bike closer by, but just thought getting the 2 done at the same time would suit best. To be honest I'm thinking of going down the new rear shock and getting the forks sorted now. I'll leave that as my big spend for next year.
