Amazon had their TV fire stick on offer the other day. I didn't buy one at the time but wish I had. So I looked on eBay only to find there are quite a few fire sticks on there jail broken to work with Kodi. It sounds too good to be believed. Just about all the pay channels free. Has anybody got a jail broken one and more to the point do they work?

Kodi is the successor to "Xbox media centre" which was originally available on the very first Xbox console, then as it progressed onto other platforms the name got shortened to "xbmc"!

Kodi is the current name for the kernel model that runs xbmc, frodo was the last kernel name.

As said Xbmc is available on an array of platforms from windows/Mac/iOS/android and a few others too.

You can stream live feeds from a lot of pay to channels but these can often cut you off and can be unreliable if there is a big show or other box office event type thing on as too many people try and view the footage the servers get overwhelmed.

I've installed it on all my iOS platforms and Windows pc, it's called TVMC on windows though.
It works ok, got it mainly to watch MotoGP now I've gotten rid of BT as my broadband provider.

When you say "got a box as well" what box do you mean? Xbox?

Mr Smug here is using his £19 Kindle Fire Stick :). Wouldn't have bought it if it wasn't on offer though as I just used to use my PS3.

Never used this before, but just installed it on my Mac Air after reading the posts.
How do I watch restricted TV channels though? And what else can I do on it?

Get yourself on YouTube and look how to instal things like Genesis, phoenix, sports devil, video devil (for the pron, not that I'd condone that) vdubt25 and many more. They're called repositories and they contain the basics to allow streaming or downloading of even the latest films.

I've got kodi on the apple bits of kit and tvmc on the windows laptop, it seems to work ok, but the sports streams I want to watch only work on tvmc.
Kodi on android has the bt sport streams from what I've seen

Finally managed to find a repository to use on Kodi for the Mac called BBTV. Covers SKY & BT Sports. Took some tracking down and installing though

I had already installed Kodi and this Repositry came up on Google at http://www.bbtsip.tv/repo.html
Then downloaded http://www.bbtsip.tv/uploads/3/1/6/0/31603209/download&install_me_in_kodi.zip , but had to use Windows to add the files to a ZIP file for Kodi to read.
Then it was a case of adding it to Kodi via System, AddOns, use ZIP file, then it came up as set of channels under Videos, BBTS.
I now have access to these ;)

    BT Sports 1 & 2 among others

and a folder full of Sky Sports channels

Next job will be to get it running on Apple TV as I've just ordered one from Tesco online as they're on the Boost scheme, effectively making them £25.
Should look something like this once done :)
