I thought I'd share these of my old bike, to gauge opinion. Prior to purchasing my FireBlade, I had my dream bike, a glorious ZX10R which was brand new and only had 800 miles on the clock. One rainy day, I hit a patch of Diesel off of a roundabout at slow speed (20mph) and the outcome was this. No road furniture hit and no other vehicle. The bike gripped the good tarmac after sliding on the diesel, and steered me towards the kerb, where the outside disc began dragging along the kerb, as the back wheel was coming round on me trying to hi-side and then it flung me off. I believed there was an issue with the frame, but Kawasaki and VOSA said no. The ZX10 is still my dream bike and I do yearn for another one, but build quality is stopping me from getting one. Anyway.....The Pictures.....
Good grief, that seems a lot of frame damage for just 20mph? the rest of the bike doesn't look to bad, weird indeed, must have been a big kerb
Yes, chap 20mph. You don't know me I understand that, but don't think using the rolly eyes thing, that i'm bullshitting. This is why, I thought there was an issue with the frame, as no bike should have ended up like this at that speed. I was ok, and had minor bruising, but quite a shock when I got to my feet.
Exactly what I thought Simon. The kerb was a fairly big one, one of those ones, you would have to slowly drive up if parking in a car.
Stacked mine at cadwell doing 120mph+ sending it end over end 5 times and it came out better than that! Did bend the headstock but it jigged out... that ain't right that though, they don't make them like they used to. Guessing the kerb just grabbed the wheel and used the forks as a leverage.
no your right, i dont, but likelwise... was only light hearted jest as can imagine what the RTA investigator would have said when looking at the bike... but no offence meant. I didnt think for a second you'd take the trouble of posting on a public forum the pics, and a poll for that, if you had done a dodgy insurance claim etc... seen bikes come off major speed crashes and destroyed at low speed, luck of the draw i guess, and that chap, looks to be mega unlucky.
well from seeing/being involved in quite a few bike crashes,i'm struggling to see what forces could have done that at 20mph,it's not even as though it's gone at the weakest point, the welds. hopefully you were fully comp, but i'm suprised kawasaki haven't taken it back to investigate it,and tooo see why it failed so catastrophically at such a low speed. it's usually the headstock that goes, not the spars.but as frames get thinner and lighter, they become weaker, but still, thats just bonkers!!!
Agree with Jimbo I'm surprised kawaskai don't want it back to investigate further. Never seen a bsb zx10r snap like that in bigger crashes so just seems a bit weird and hopefully a 1 off. I remeber the k5 gixer 1000 had to have a recall to strengthen the frame around the headstock.
Jimbo, its cool. No offence taken. I had literally just tiptoed round the roundabout for the 3rd option right, at no speed as I hate riding in the rain and as the bike straightend up and I began to lightly bring in the power, the rear wheel entered a tyre rut from buses and threw me out. Guys, my thoughts were identical to yours. I follow BSB all over the country and my mate rode in the Superstock Thousand series in 2013 on a ZX10. He had a major off at Oulton and his bike was never that bad. I'm certain it was a faulty bike, and Kawasaki would only get involved if I paid for an independent metal inspection. This was over 2k when I was moving house so didn't get it done. I was Fully Comp and so they paid £9750 I think for the bike. When I got my Blade, they canned me for insurance lol, trying to claim it all back. But, I would love another one, but in black this time. The wife says No....
That poor for a 20mph crash snapping the frame where it has! As said above I could understand if it snapped on the headstock or welds not halfway along.
Essex, the bloody bike is a piece of metal and can/cannot be repaired, but tbh mate I am much more concerned that in that 1st pic, it appears not only did the front end come off, but your head did as well. I know you Essex boys think you're hard, but that's worrying mate. Hopefully the recovery time was not too long.
Blimey I had a new 954 that someone in a VW Polo ploughed into the side of at around 70, it slid down the road hit the kerb and cartwheeled end over end, looked far better than that. I suppose they dont make em like they used to.
Matts binned his 5-6 times now at stupid speeds and not had anything like that! Must have been sumat a miss imho, stress fractures etc like the big Boeings!
