so I've Seen a number of threads on how far on a tank but today was a stressful search for fuel. When I eventially found a station my tank took 15.56 litres, the gauge was flashing 0.4 what ever that means? I have never felt so stressed looking for fuel Question is, I think my bike was about sucking fumes but if I needed 15.56 letres to fill how empty actually was I ?
Don't worry I take mine to 0.7 when it's flashing & that's when it's getting on fumes, probably does 25 to 30 miles from 0.0 to 0.7......that's 0.7 of a gallon it's showing by the way
There's a thread on here somewhere about 'reserve' light fuel. From what I remember, the reserve goes up to 0.7 (gallon) and then you're out of juice, so you had about 0.3 gallons left. The way I do it is to see what my average mpg is on the speedo when the reserve light comes on, then using 0.5 gallon as my target to reach on reserve, calculate what miles that will then give me. For example, if ave mpg is 50, 0.5 gallon reserve will therefore give you 25 miles (0.5 of 50 miles per gallon = 25 miles). Sorry if I've not explained it very well but if you remember that 0.7 is when you'll be running out so aim to refuel by 0.5 and you'll be fine.
Reserve is in litres... Certainly is on mine (2012 Anniversary Model). Even if the speedo is set to miles. The reserve goes all the way up to 3.5 (litres). 0.7 is not even 1/4 of the way... H
Mine reads in gallons therefore 0.7 Correct, mine reads in gallons left & I presume so does Carls as it's flashing same sequence as mine
2012 model changed from the 0.7 to the 3.5 you talk about. If you have a blade prior to 2012 DO NOT hope it'll get to 3.5 on reserve lol
Yeah my 05 has 3.5 litre left on reserve too, which should get you 30 miles or so depending how hard you ride? sounds like your is set on gallons Carl, so still enough left for 20 miles
Yep I thought as well, after going onto reserve at 12.9l, confident that Mr Japanese was spot on with their electronics, spent the last mile walking to the garage as it finally died at 2.7 litres flashing on the clock, not so much flashing, but more like a smirk on a cold dark night in a country lane, that equated to 193 miles.
0.4..... 0.7..... 3.5.....??? Come on Guys, I'm over 50 here and my brain's started to fry now Think I'll stick with looking for fuel once I hit somewhere around 120 miles, or go on the assumption that if my fuel light comes on, and I roll it off a tad, I'll have about 25 miles left before I run out of fuel... That way, my brain doesn't have to process all these figures. See, my first bike didn't have fuel lights and average things, just a poxy fuel tap! I'm afraid I'm a technological piece of toast
That's a pretty comprehensive resolve from you guys thanks, I have to say I had every vehicle under the sun passing me whilst trying to ride on what I thought was fumes, even a lad on a 125 tanking it, made his day bless him?
I recently ran out of petrol flashing on 8, I ve had this bike 3 years and had been thinking it went up to 10.
I've took mine to 3.5 and still had a litre left. Carry a small fuel can and let it run out then you will know.
No, that's the reserve point kicking in, it'll then start counting up towards empty. Some count in gallons some in litres depending on how you've set it. Once it starts flashing you've about 25 to 30 mlies left before splut splut doh!
Hi still make more sense to count down? Better still count down in miles left to splut splut caput ;-)
