I've just attempted to fit my PCV which i haven't managed as the fuel pipe is stuck so tight its not budging, i've tried everything, its like its held with super glue. Anyway whilst i was taking the bike apart i noticed this in the tail, i have no idea what it is, if its standard, and should it be full of fluid or not?
Looks like a Scotoiler type reservoir to me, for keeping the chain lubed/oiled as you ride. They're not standard and can be removed easily enough if you don't want it. Does it have the dispensing fork near the chain? Just follow the tube.
Ah ok ill have a look, I was worried it may have been something to do with an air shift or something and i might have found the bike had had a pretty hard life ha ha.
Twist it round a little and see what the cap says. I can make out Sc in the photo. If it says Scotoiler you know what it is then. I'm 99% sure it is.
It does say Scott something or other, i didn't spend too much time worrying about it as i was cracking on with the PCV. Cheers Nige.
Blimey mate, bit surprised you ain't seen one of them before. Yep, it's a Scottoiler, google it. You should see a tube running down to the rear sprocket. Fill it up with oil and it should work? For what it's worth I think they're shit, I've had three of them tho' I've never bought one, they were on the bikes when I bought them. None of them really worked right, spent forever p*****g about with 'em trying to get them to work, dumped 'em in the end. Maybe others have had better luck with them. These were the old 'carb' controlled models, maybe the 'injection' models are better. I did have a 'Motrax' oiler which was excellent, don't think they're made anymore at least not under that name, maybe under some other brand name, very simple, dead reliable.
Nope, didn't even know such a thing existed but I'm still relatively new to bikes. There's no lube in it so I may just remove it.
Unless you think it's taking up valuable under seat room or you think it looks ugly then stick a bit of oil in it (if it's empty) and see if it works, you might like it.
Well if it all still piped up with all the attachments, then you can use standard cheap old ep90 gear oil in it rather than pay loads for the Scottoil stuff, which is basically the same stuff but branded. I use one on my 600, that bike has seen floods and winter weather but the chain is like new. The Blade, however, gets expensive Wurth dry lube and is a rusty mess..
Just seen the Motrax oiler still exists, don't know why I thought it was no longer made. If you do decide to use the scott oiler (that is what it is btw, just check that the oil dispensing tips are all lined up on the rear sprocket properly or you end up wit a icky mess. If your any where near me feel free to drop by as I have 2 bottles (1 unopened) of the oil you can have. If you do decide to remove it make sure you cap of where they have connected the vacuum tube, I had to fit a t junction in my vacuum line to fit it on my RRV. Hope this helps.

Ha ha, I'm no better mate on the boarder between Leeds and Wakefield, that does make it an expensive bottle of oil though if I were to nip down lol
