Hi all. I've got a pretty extreme Fireblade for Trackdays and Racing and at the end of the season I need to get it booked in for the engine to be checked over/refreshed. I've got the know how to do pretty much everything else but I don't really fancy stripping an engine down and once it was in bits wouldn't really know what to check anyway! Any advice would be great and if anyone has any tips on making it as good as it can be then it would be much appreciated. Spec is fairly high with lots of HRC kit bits, K-Tech 30mm DDS internals, kit Showa rear shock, HRC loom and ECU and it made 198bhp at the wheel on the dyno! Cheers for any help.
Tell us more about what has been done to the engine mate. If you are pushing nearly 200 bhp it sounds pretty sorted. There still a few bits missing from the list such as shock linkages, steering dampers, braking, gennys, quickshifters and other things on the extreme such as moving weight around like lowering the fuel pump and electrics etc
yep go on,give us the break down on the motor, but running at that power a refresh isn't something you'd want to be doing blind tbh,if you want to continue at that then someone that knows what they are doing will need to strip it and give it the once over, replacing shells, rings, gearbox wear etc. assume your not on standard box,HRC or nova?
Definitely more scared than fast that's for sure! Not sure what's been done to the engine as I bought it already in its current state of tune. It has a translogic quickshifter, kit linkages, kit oil cooler, big radiator, mechanical steering damper. No idea on the fuel pump or electrics relocation or the genny. Worryingly I don't know on the gearbox either. If it's standard I think it's days are numbered! I'm based in Sheffield but would be happy to travel a bit to get to someone good.
I know the bike. It's got a Chris Mayhew motor in it... It was an Irish Road racing machine .. If it Doesn't smoke or rattle leave it alone ... Mr Mayhew is the best their is tuning the blades . His motors last for ever . Mines got one in and made 187 so not as quick as yours . Torques phenonimal . Providing you change the oil regularly and warm her up correctly you'll have a cracking machine for years to come . That engine you have there will have lots of expensive metals in that are hard wearing .. I have a copy of your dyno printout somewhere
ahh is it the one i missed out on a few months ago? did sound like a good bike for the money. nomski,1 way to tell if it has a standard or kit box is,put up on rear stand, put into 1st,if theres a lot of movement before the wheel locks it'll be a HRC (guessing about6-8 inches),if it only moves about 1/2 that, then it'll be standard.
Yes scoobs it's the very one .. Mine came from the same area .. They are cracking bikes. Mines for sale but I keep adding shit to it haha
