I'm desperate to do a track day before I get to old but was wondering what would be the best way for me to experience this. Do I go to somewhere like Ron Haslams Race School at Donington. Do I take my own 2013 road bike and just sign up for a novice group at a track day or are there other ways to experience a track day. If i take my own bike will it pass the noise level test with a Yoshimura carbon R77 fitted. Its something I want to tick off my 'to do' list. Your suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you
I wouldn't hesitate for a second in doing a novice group track day at Donington on your own bike. Focused Events have a few coming up this month. A 105db day should be fine with your pipe, if in doubt phone the circuit, they are really helpful. You can always get a session with an instructor to talk you through the lines etc then follow him around. The Ron Haslam school is good but you won't get much track time for your buck.
I've done the Ron Haslam race school, was my first taste of track and I was hooked. Great way to be taught the ropes, use someone else's bike, and have a pro keep you away from getting bad habits. I now take my own bike to all my track days, and love the fact I am getting better each time on my own bike and pushing my bike and myself. Don't think about it, just do it. Whatever route you take to going on track, just do it! It's truly brilliant fun!
Agree with both of the above.... But I'm sure within 3 laps of a track day on your own bike you'll be kicking yourself you didn't do it sooner
Having done the Ron Haslam experience years ago I would say you'd be better off booking a normal trackday, as you get far more track time for your money. Book a day with No Limits and you will have access to free instruction. The benefit of doing the trackday on your own bike is that you get the opportunity to learn not only what your bike is capable of, but also your tyres which is beneficial to your road riding too.
I booked Donington on my fireblade for my first tracks day, went in novice, learnt the track, had a great day. I still do track days on my road bike but with a few upgrades for track use. Donington is a great first track, nice and wide with room for errors Most TDO will give you free instruction if you ask them, and you get 7x20min sessions on most three group days
Do what you feel comfortable with. If you don't want to use your own bike there are companies that will hire you one for the day. If you want tuition there are companies like Ron Haslam and BSBS who will sell you a training day on track.

If you post the track day you're booked on then it also gives others an opportunity to book the same one as there's often a lot of help & advice that can be picked up too.
I'd be interested in Donington too. I've never done a track day. It's something I've always wanted to do.

I'll look into it now! Any ideas what an average track day costs? What about Haslam school? I imagine that's quite pricey.
Honestly lads make the effort, get what you put in.... I joined the forum as my riding buddy was off traveling round the world (on a bike) and I was a bit of a lost cause and not riding much as was bored tbh.... Met some true mates on here, been on tours, quite a few track days, drunk at the Nec God know how many times and even started racing because of my pals I've met on here. I see pals up north more than mates that live in my town.... Nothing ventured and all that jazz
