Race tech RR's as its now my race bike lol Seriously though, 1st would be Pr4's... Without doubt. As much grip and feel in dry as 'sporty tyres', actually return decent miles, brilliant in wet. Used on R1 and Speed T but toured, road, ring and would do a track day on these no probs. 2nd M7rr - just put these on Speed, very impressed with dry and wet grip (not as good as pr4's.) warm up seems little slower too and don't seem to give the feel of michelins - but think that's more a trust thing as down so many miles on pr3's/4's. Time will tell but think they will give decent miles too.
Might be useful, I don't seem to have the Jedi like feel of some who can critique a tyre in depth but here's my crude assessment of each.... 2ct's - brilliant all round, good grip, road, track or touring. Last decent. Cheap. Bit old hat now Qualifiers - god awful rubbish. No feel, front always felt like washing out Sportsmarts - very good all round tyre. Pr4 does everything better imo Rosso corsa - was good, no real plus or minus, think they lasted ok. Didn't buy another set so says it all Pr3's - brilliant tyre, lasts forever, ran out of balls before grip on the ring on these Pr4's - see above, fantastic, improvement on PR3's Bt016 pro's - emergency purchase in Germany as killed mine mid tour. Decent enough tbh. Was surprised and not expensive, old tech now? Added S20 - great grip, very good in wet. Rear lasted 1000 miles these are the tyres that put me on to pr3's as was sick of buying new ones. M7rr - really impressed with these. Done 1000 miles last three weekends on these inc wet / damp fast road ride. Initial 'feel' isn't as good as PR'4s but once warm they are bloody rock solid and planted. Pushed them quite hard and dealt with it. Don't have the complete blind faith I've had in them yet you seem to get with other tyres but might be as they are on the naked and still adjusting to the riding style. Wear seems good, and if I get more then 4k+ out of rear I'll be impressed with them. Time will tell
Well, I'm going to have a change.... I've been on Pilot power 2ct's for the last 6/7 years, with the very, very, tiny (like 100miles) spell on qualifiers when I got 2011 blade, which, we all know was on qualifiers.. Ahhhhhhhhhh My god, why spoil a good bike with those things... Anyway, prior to retiring, my bike was a company bike and they paid for my tyres.... It's come as a shock to the system but I now have to pay for my own petrol, servicing, tyres etc etc, and I've started coming out in a cold sweat and having palpitations.... So, I going to have a dabble into either Pilot Road 3's or 4's.... Had a lot of feedback and my rationale is that I won't compromise grip or handling, but, they last waaaaaaaay much longer than the 2ct's that I've used forever and a day, for a small amount more. So it makes sense. Has anybody in my area (Teesside/Darlington) had any fitted lately, if so, any idea on best deals on PR3 or PR4 in my area. Looking for ride in ride out. Hopefully thanks, Nick.
@Jimbo Vills Thanks for the write up. My blade came with S20's and i too only returned 1100 miles on these ( pushed the front on the road nearly crashed) So off the list. Replaced with M7rr 2500 out rear and 5000 out of front. Running a 55 profile on back slow to turn in with 50profile. Not much feedback from front and roll into the turn rather than drop. Once in the turn cranked right over rock solid. Best tyre i have used in the wet ( never had pr4 .. Yet!). These m7rr never move when pushed on the road but like you say blind faith no feel> My favorite tyre on the blade rosso corsa but only get 1500 miles out of the pair.The only tyre that allow me to scrap foot pegs on the road.(front/rear wear at same rate) ok in wet but not brilliant. Fed up with low mileage i went down the touring tyre route with pirelli Angels. Hated them took them off without wearing them out! Spoilt the handling of the blade really heavy on the front! When i did hard breaking the front tyre squealed in protest like a prostitute that didnt get paid !! I want to try Race tech RR's K3 on the road but in autumn now so ?? Im now swaying towards pr4 after your write up thankyou Jimbo
Hi haven't touched the suspension feels spot on for the road. The 44t rear sprocket and the need for speed might be to blame for rear tyre wear> The tyres wear well no sign of suspension hiccups. ,
Well seems that our points are similar so means I'm not talking complete bollox which is a relief Try the 4's - be amazed if you didn't like them. RR K3 would be mega for dry road but I'd be concerned about real world use in terms of miles and UK weather
Pr4s on mine, done a European and lots of local, still plenty of meat and no dramas. Went round ring no sweat.
