Another boring tyre question but has anyone had both? Which seem to be the best for all year round riding and the potential wet ride home! Many thanks chaps/ladies!
Had pr3's and 4's a while now.... But recently switched to m7rr for a whirl. The wet ride home says it all. Pr'4s it is then. I'm loving the mr7's don't get me wrong, just not quite as much as the 4's.... Great all round ability in both, 4's better in wet (although really put the mr7's through their pecs in damp and wet and they are faultless) I'd say the pr's give a little more feel but the mr's don't budge at all when pushed hard.... Not sure what miles the m7's will return but don't think it'll be pr's mileage tbh. Both awesome, would gladly have either.... Pr's just pip it at mo but need a few more miles on the mr's to say 100 percent. Done about 1,000 so far!
Cheers for the informative comparison mate! I don't do many heavy miles but I wanted something that would still perform on very cold days.
Lots of talk always about PR4 and M7RR on this forum. I really don't get it. Modern bike tyres are all far better than where 99% of us road riders will push them to. As long as it's a modern tyre with tread and you don't ride like a twat, you'll be fine on all tyres. We're just slaves to marketing and test results. Just my opinion. Oh, and I run Pilot Powers. 1ct!
One mans meat....... I fitted m7rr's for my french trip this year, no complaints, i usually go for something sportier, rennsport or racetec, but the m7's were fine, reckon i should get close to 4,000 miles
Ha! I had a pair on my old Aprilia and didn't like them. Don't get me wrong, I agree there is a difference in feel from tyre to tyre - I also don't like BT016's for the same reason. But my point was that regardless of feel, they will still keep me upright like most other tyres on the market now.
Didn't feel that way come the end if the tour mind. Though that's maybe thru tinted glasses. You's lot probably thought fukcing hurry up a bit would ya
Ha ha!! Not at all.... Just pulling ya chain. I think I'll get similar miles tbh. Although do think the triumph is a little hard on rear tyres as power is low down?
Totally disagree, I've tried a fair amount of modern tyres, all slightly different and offer better performances for different situations.... And tyre life differs massively tyre to tyre. Do agree that most modern tyres are amazing. But some still better than others imo
Yep, I agree with most of that but my point was the apparent obsession with PR4's and M7RR's. Yes they're good tyres of course but I can't help thinking the main reason for this obsession is the PR hype. IMO.
Not on my part, had them for three or four years, road, touring, round the ring... Haven't tried on track but I'd gladly go out in fast on them (many mates have) and get 5k out of a rear.... That's not hype mate, that's tested experience and IMO (as tyres are subjective and it's only an opinion) they are the best tyres I've had. And tried plenty others to form a decent comparison... Hence why I tried M7's - to see what the fuss is about, and it seems some folk on here talk sence as they are a great tyre, but can't comment on wear yet as haven't done a full set..... Have you tried em both?
Defo not hype. I couldn't give a rats ass about PR. I can only go on by what I feel and how long they have lasted me. They will be getting my money again.
Hi im just doing the opposite run m7rr for a year on a 2014 blade. 5000 mile out the front 2500 miles out of rear (x2). After reading about pr4 on here ive fitted a set today. More feedback to follow
No, not tried either. Looked at getting PR4s when I needed a new set but chose to stick with PPs instead. I'm very happy with the feel of these in all conditions and although I wouldn't base a decision on price, a lot cheaper too. Horses for courses though.
Ran both PR3's and 4's No need for anything sportier on a Road Bike imho Agree on the OEM Dunlop Qualifiers, they are dire, fecked mine off to ebay at 400 miles they were that shyte in the wet!
Sorry dude, but struggle to see how you can say my review is based on hype when I've actually tried them and you haven't?? Btw, tried PP and 2ct's... You should try the pr4's. They are miles better. Only a opinion of course though
I love the M7RR's and average 4-5k from rear, 7k front (on the last two sets) .. currently on my third rear... I've also tried the PR3's (not on same bike) and found them fine ... but for me the key difference is the sporty profiles of sports tyres via touring which are more rounded and slow the steering down a bit, they are also heavier. I've done serious mileage on both modern types to compare. But it is true both are more than good enough for the road in terms of grip ability ... however they feel different and confidence can play a big part. So yes, touring tyres will work ... but why put touring tyres on a sports bike especially given the mileage you get from sports tyres these days. Would you put nankangs on a sports car?
