Is it just me? I now look at bikes for sale that a bloke (or lass) has spent a bloody fortune on modifying just to ride it pleasantly (when compared to track) on the road and the first though I have is: Put a set of track fairings & lockwire on that and its good to race Example (sorry if i's anyone on here : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HONDA-CBR...BOS-ETC-ETC-/221896017041?hash=item33aa088491
I agree... BUT, if it floats your boat then why not. It's no different to wearing fancy expensive clothes... feel good factor and all that.
Know plenty who ride their bikes hard on the road mate, and like / use the upgrades.... Not to be sniffed at sometimes. But your right! These bikes would make an awesome base for track / race bike
Some do. It's all relative, he obviously has lots of disposable income and an understanding wife, that's why I ride an '06
I've got nothing against people improving their bikes for the road and have done this myself (although not to the extreme of the example), I just think its just that my mindset has changed on the way I view these bikes as I used to ogle them for what they are but now I look at how I want to use it.
Get that, but my triumph is pretty trick being the R and as nice as it is to look at the bling... It's the fun it gives me riding I care about most. It's a fine one, I used to think all that money was wasted on road / mere mortal talent like us.... Slowly changing my mind. If you have the reddies - crack on
Erm. I may well be 1 of those types I'm afraid. Though I do now have a tracker that will soon be to the same spec. Not that it matters. Road bike Track bike. Basically stock with fairings. Have to say though that the road bike now rides and feels excellent. So is it worth doing such mods to a road bike?? By fook it is yes. So much plusher. Will it make me a faster rider on the road. No it won't but it is a nicer bike to ride and I enjoy it a whole lot more. So to me money well spent. Other side if the stick now is that I can now see more benefit of the upgrades on track. Though again I'd never be able to get to the level that I'd make the most of them. Will it stop me upgrading it anyway? Nope Sorry my bad
The bike looks nice, but seems a strange thing to spend such a ridiculous amount of money, then realise you are '50' and decide it does not suit you? Surely when he spunked all that money at 49 his psychological and physical make up was not that much different?
U can buy the OP's initial ebay listing bike safe in the knowledge it aint been ragged too hard. Look at dem chicken strips!
I thought you were talkin about Col part way through readin that post then remembered about the OP! He's got a good few yrs to go yet before he's there!
I've just turned 50 and my bikes pretty well trick now and still spend money on for other bits as and when I see them. I just don't get this, "turned 50 so getting and adventure/sports tourer" thing. I love getting all curled up on my bike tucked under the bubble etc etc and intend on doing so for many years yet. I met a bloke at a bike night last year, 78 years old, still rides a sportsbike and just come back from IOM, said he got a ton sixty over the mountain but had to back off as he was catching slower bikes. As for the bike in the listing, seems very dear for what it is, and isn't that trick really. As has been said could get a newer SP for the same kind of money with most of the bits as standard.
That was my thought too, they only make the Repsol on odd year not evens. The old adage always holds true, unless the bike is something limited edition or collectable, then no matter how much you invest in trick bits it'll never recoup the outlay.
For me pipe and powercommander is enough additional power for the road, beyond that and you're gonna end up with pig to ride. (brakes are OK too) Carbon wheels ride like sh*t on uneven surfaces as you lose the gyro effect. They should be left as track wheels. Maybe that's why people sell them after they've fully tricked them....they're just no fun in the real world
Thanks ! It handle's fantastic , just had the suspension rebuilt ,setup an uprated to my weight an riding style by PDQ. Done a few trackdays at Brands GP .
