Front end of the old blade felt a bit vague so had a quick glance in car park and decided that I needed a new Michelin Pilot Road 4. Then I got it home and was having a proper look as its the first time Ive needed a front before a Rear?? Very strange wear, Don't know what to make of it! Looks like Ive been going round and round roundabouts (which I haven't) never seen wear like this should I be worried or mention to Michelin? Ive ordered a new front for fitting at the weekend obviously! Any comments from other users most welcome.
I think is the tyre mate. I have seen this on my friend's car. Weird and the only explanation was that it was a one off. Nothing to do with the driving, just unlucky i guess. The good thing is that you've noticed it early.
Hi Zipsteruk Funnily enough I run pilot road 4s on mine and the right hand side of my front as worn more than the left hand side,I thought is was the fact I tend to prefer right handers more than left handers and tend to trail a bit of front brake as I'm into the corner ,which I guess puts more force onto the edge of the tyre or there is a fault with the tyres which I doubt very much. Only time I have seen that was on the SP1 I had. Basically it was down to the suspension not operating properly. Probably due to it never being serviced. When we pulled the forks apart to fit new springs and oil, the oil was so sludgy that it blocked up the valves and prevented the front right fork from operating properly.
Hi ColinBR Wheel bearings feel fine on mine and suspension compresses and rebounds fine so what else could it be unless it's like what I said in my previous post. Cheers Stu
believe it or not they have done approx 6000 miles, unbelievable mileage compared to what I'm used too. Just the weird way it was only one side. Forks and bearrings seem tickety boo with no issues, I've fired off a very public tweet to michelin to see if they have any response at all?
Road camber. Used to get it regularly back in the day but not so much recently. Combination of a dud tyre, road camber and heavy braking. Solution is to get a new tyre, ride more smoothly and on the wrong side of the road around 50% of the time.[emoji4]
I've seen this on bikes a few times when I was living in Milton Keynes (roundabout city). The guys at the tyre garage told me they see this on most bike tyres they change purely because of the amount of roundabouts in the city.
New rubber has been put on and my god you forget how good these things handle with fresh rubber. Thanks for all the input people.
Bizarre youve needed front before rear tho! I can get 6k out of my rear sportsmart2 & usually more from the front & I do every type of road!
Whilst the forks feel OK when you're jumping up and down on them, they works very differently on the road. If one side is even a slightly stiffer than the other it'll take it out on the next most flexible part, the tire. If you havent had your suspension changed from stock, reset it as per the manual and see how you go. It shouldn't be bearing related on a '14 plate.
