Around 12 - 14 months ago we replaced all of the wrecked bodywork on my sons RR5 with a full set of Chinese plastics. On arrival of the said parts we were well impressed with the paint job and not to much fiddling to fit. We now notice that the plastics are falling to pieces, a number of tabs have snapped off and on doing an oil change today we noticed 2 mid lower fairing mounts have broken off and the belly pan part just by the side stand has almost broken off. As we only paid £300 and something for them can't really complain. To me the plastic looks very hard/ brittle, shame really but" you pays your money"...........
I've looked at these but been told the plastic is hard and not flexible enough shame as they look good
Same here they look good but after a while with bike maintenance having to take them off for filter changes and general maintenance they don't last long so I'm getting oem ones as they come up on eBay
Yikes... everyone I've spoken to says you usually get about 3 years out of them before they start cracking/splitting and generally falling apart. Suppose it depends how often you remove/refit them. Obviously the belly pan in particular suffers with its location so close to the exhaust... did you line your belly pan with decent heat protection?
The belly pan crack/split is nowhere near the exhaust, the break is just around the side stand area, can't see any obvious reason for it breaking. We will make suitable repairs and wait to see what else breaks.
That's spot on mine broke there as well and the seat unit one of the mounting points under the seat so I'm looking out for oem repsol on eBay I've got the two lowers and the seat unit but oem repsol is silly money on eBay especially good ones generally the nosecone tank middle chink not too bad as they ten not to flex so much
My china kit lasted a similar time before they met an earlier expected end outside a police station in Foix, France but after about 20k miles they were starting to fall to bits, with tabs splitting / cracking etc. They did look good, but I experienced the bellypan tabs failing so put in extra fixings there to hold it together. The left hand side fairing never lined up round headlamp correctly, same with seat unit. But to refresh your bike or give it a new look / track day set of plastics they are an option esp for the price.
