I would be interested to find out what gearing changes people make to their Blade for road use. I believe the 2oo6 to 2008 bikes run standard on 16 front 42 rear and the 04 to 05 on 16 F 41 R. I would like a bit more acceleration, yep I know I will lose some top end but that doesn't bother me too much. I am sure some of the 'track' guys can be a lot of help on this one. I always face the same dilemma, whether to lose teeth on the front or add them onto the rear or a bit of both. I have been on here Gearing Commander: Motorcycle Speed, RPM, Chain & Sprockets Calculator Some advice on the pros and cons of each option would be good, also how much of a difference it makes to acceleration in reality. Cheers and happy Xmas eve
Im running -1 front Plenty for me .. Front lifts easier . My mate has -1 front + 2 rear but that is way to much IMO
Found the 15t sprocket on a 530 chain caused more viabration the turning radius is much tighter, 15t on a 525 chain is smoother. The standard gearing on the 04-05 is 16t front 40t rear
Newbie question here so I apologise beforehand, but does the speedo need recalibrating if you swap sprockets around?
Thanks for all the replies so far, the most popular so far seems to be the -1 F + 2 R. Any problems with the 15 T sprocket running tigher over the smaller radiust causing vibration with a 530 chain like Bladerider mentioned ? Generally speaking, Is there a big difference between running a 525 chain as opposed to a 530 ? Writing this on Xmas morn at 4-30 am..........I must be mad..........no comments on that please
Like Masterblader said, 15T 530 is a bit too small and can cause vibes and excessive wear. 525 is a bit lighter, sprockets a bit thinner. Not as strong as a 530, but I haven't bust a chain yet! This one has done 25,000 miles ! Wouldn't go to a 520 though! Can weigh my new 525 if ya want?
for -1 +2 definitely need a speedo healer . I aint bothered for just -1 front as i think its roughly 7 to 10 mph FAO JM1 ......... Whats that web site you suggested before to work out how what gear changes affect your speedo ???
1992 the blade had a 530 as standard in, 1996 with the RRT it went to a 525 which shaved off over 3lbs from the overall weight as big H were playing the power to weight game. In 2000 it went back to the 530 section for better mileage . Racing and TD boys settle for for the 520 section which is even lighter stronger and more expensive.
Merry Xmas, I am always amazed by how much knowlege is contained here by board members. You guys are impressive, it's like a motorcycle wickepedia only a lot better. Cheers.
