Grantham Motorcycles - Did not realize i need insurance to have it registered. Called bennets to swap over - they said no..was expecting that.. Checking online, premium is near £450! compared to the £145 i paid for the 09 blade. that's a huge difference! clean licence & 5 years ncd - piss take! Will have to check online later tonight for better quotes.
Lol when I bought my sp I had my 11 plate blade insured with bennets for around £190 phones up to insure sp and they wanted £1600
If you have NCB I understand it can only be used on 1 bike, so other than the increase in value for the new blade that could part explain the premium increase. If I'm wrong sure someone on here with much more knowledge will correct me.
Nope..will be cancelling my existing insurance.. 5 yrs ncd will be applied to the new bike.. Checked sp and not insuring me at all... Seems £480ish + £750 excess! With 2000miles declared. Security & additional rider did not make any difference.
Does Grantham not do that 7 days free insurance, gives you time to shop around. I have used the company below for years, they usually beat your lowest quote by 10% Only £400 excess when I had mine but it may have gone up. Really low interest on monthly payments and low changes charges. https://www.cornmarketinsurance.co.uk/insurance-products/motorbike-insurance/
I have multi bike policy. I insure 2 bikes on one policy using 5 yrs NCB. I cannot have more that 20k value of bikes in the garage. My quotes for a brand new blade BSB replica started off at £1200. They eventually after 2 wk of trying different companies I got it for £590. I paid it in one go as it went up horrifically if I paid in instalments.
Beware of the Hastings 'Multi Bike' insurance product, its not multibike it is a 'Dual Bike' policy as only allows a maximum of 2 bikes, end of.
Honda no longer do the drive away 7 day insurance..stopped it last year apparently...so I was told by the dealer.. Moving around a fair bit today...think I'll buy the cheapest policy I can find..get the bike delivered then cancel the policy within 7 days... And find something else..
Sam if you cancel policy there will be a cancellation free try different comparison sites moneysupermarket was good for me.
Called Bennets, i paid £145, they said they will give me back £113.. Also i can cancel the road tax on the old blade... another option is to buy the £250 policy now, 3rd party - have it delivered and then cancel and look for a better price. as i dont have time to shop around..quotes look like £440 3rd party fire and theft - without cover to ride other bikes..or £550 fully comp.. but really only intend to cover 1000 miles at most next year - as i have my leg opp and recovery.. + its getting cold out there.
on another note, i know many hate the datatool alarm, dealer said they can fit one for £300. made no difference to the insurance quote, but its just i need something if the bike gets tampered with when in the garage or if i go anywere (as its always close) or i can rip out the alarm from the existing bike - and pay someone £150 i think it was to fit this in. being a new blade i did not want it to be opened and not put back together incorrectly.. i know its new.. wanted to keep it that way so thinking...
true, but its sometimes good for when i got to my dads and the bikes outside the window or outside work..or pop into a shop.. its light and can be taken easily.
Sam thats why you " must" have fully comp insurance. £300 saved on alarm towards a good fully comp policy
This is Thatcham cat 1 (same as fitted to my blade) http://www.amazon.co.uk/M357T-V2-THATCHAM-APPROVED-MOTORBIKE-IMMOBILISER/dp/B00GSPGPOG Still needs to be fitted though!
My insurance would not cover me without one on fully comp even thought the immobilisers these days are thatcham approved!
I know after buying a brand new bike funds may be tight BUT I can't understand anyone taking anything other than fully comp and complaining about having to spend £500 on a £13000 list bike!! I totalled my £3000 Gixer K3 1000 with no one else involved and got paid out to replace my bike! Anything else is a false economy.
