IT must be that time of year. Had Oxford heated grips on my blade for three years that turn off when the ignition is turned off. Brilliant I must say. Now looking for some new ones and have thought bout the Datatool set. Haven't made my mind up yet, well I should say Andy hasn't made his mind up yet !!
My R&G ones have been on the 2008 Blade for about 100,000 miles and still get toasty hot, they cost about £40 from memory and never caused me any issue in that time, other than the grip glue getting slipping on the throttle grip on high settings after about 90k They've melted ice off the bars in Northern Spain a few years back which is quite impressive too
I have the Oxford ones on my KLV1000, and they are too warm at a high setting, but work fantastically.
Sounds like I would have done equally well with Oxford or R&G ones too. Can't think why I didn''t get heated grips earlier - I've spent lots in the past in search of warmer gloves and spent ages at the side of the road thawing my hands against the engine covers (wearing gloves!).
The r&g ones work ok but i have totally worn off the grip markings on the grips themselves ,so they are now balder than bruce willis
I thought about the Datatool ones but i only have small hands and have heard they are quite a bit larger than the standard grips is this right.
Yes they are thicker. I wear gloves size small and I was worried too. But they are fine in practice. Only problem was achy clutch hand first time. Soon fixed by remembering to put bike in neutral at traffic lights rather than sitting there holding in the clutch lever for minutes at a time. No aches at all during or after Sunday's 7 hour ride. Just comfy warm hands all through ride. Never needed to set them above level 3 (max is 4)
The R&G ones heat the whole grip - 5 heat settings too, surprising just how much difference just having them on the lowest setting makes
The BMW S1000RR comes with heated grips as standard.........................and ABS that works... oh and dynamic traction control, electronic suspension, launch control, cruise control, pit lane limiter, lean angle indicator, out side temp indicator oh yeah and 199BHP !!!
I've got them as standard on my FJR1300 and they're superb. Pisses the wife off that I sometimes have to turn them down a bit because my hands are too warm
