FYI Sam - the led no. plate light needs to be wired wrong... black to red and red to black (at least it did on mine!). If you want to use the oem indicators, you'll need the larger of the two mounts. When you install the mount to the bike, the Allen key head should be under the bike and the nut inside the seat (if you put it the other way around you can't fit the indicator mount!) Those are the bits left off the instructions - hopefully that'll speed up your installation!
And pay twice the price + 1 hour's labour? I struggle to think of anything that could happen that Honda could blame on the tail tidy. I suppose an electrical issue, but it'd be taking the piss if they did. If you were really concerned, you could refit the original tail before the warranty claim.
Honda wanted near £100 to fit 2 crash bungs... Good point on the warranty...I will check...but it would be stupid if warranty is voided by me fitting a tail tidy...
Spoke to the dealer..they said it should not be an issue, as long as its done right.. If an issue is found it only invalidates that part - if its a accessory or install fault. So the example he gave was an after market screen..Honda ones come with a rear cover..as if this is not used, the sun could melt the clocks - this invalidates a warranty claim on the clocks.
How does the original number plate holder come apart? How do I open it up? Before I remove the bolts under the rear seat holding it in place..? I had managed to split abit of it open, were I can see the nuts that hold the indicators in place...bit did not want to force the plastic off..in case something breaks...
Instructions will tell you that bit. If your desperate to get started, download them from r&g website.
To do a good job involves cutting a connector off and making a good soldered joint with heat shrink over it . Any electrical issues with the bike Honda may get out of it saying it hasn't been done right etc etc
If you want it super neat and tidy, sure. But the kit comes with its own loom to make it fully reversible so you don't need to cut any wires at all.
I found that by ordering some Jap style bullet connectors with rubber protector sleeves made the job so easy and looks good. Add to that the ease in which i can put the original back with just two bullet connectors!
As far as I remember one wire needed to be cut and soldered , think it may have been the little number plate light , I had Honda do mine and got a receipt , was dear at £50 but I had the assurance there wouldn't be any hassle if I ever had any electrical problems , and yes I may worry too much but bike was brand new
Hmm..maybe this is the newer design... Very neat install...I remember on the 05 blade..was a pain. Did not have to cut anything either..the number plate light wire was the other way round...but all fitted..just need to tidy up and get a small number plate.
