Hi all, Is there is anyone out there that currently has there seat off and could therefore test there diode for me? Its located in the fuse box, and shows you where on the top of the fuse box lid. I'm currently trying to work out why my bike wont start and help would be appreciated. There are three pins on the diode and there should be continuity from the outer pin to the middle as below I get no continuity at all but I like to know for sure someone elses does have continuity before ordering one at the best part of £28.00 Mine is a RR9 but think the 08-11 def same and prob later. Cheers Darryl
Cheers matey, I've ordered one from the US now which should be here soon so don't go to any trouble. After further investigation I suspect it is not the diode at fault anyway. But will confirm once new one arrives.
Hi - sorry for the delay. Ended up doing a few late nights and plum forgot. I get no continuity (no beep), but a small resistance value as described above. Sounds like you may right that it's not the diode.
Thanks for testing it thanks mate. I think the manual was a bit misleading when it mentioned continuity, I think the diode is fine also. I've just changed the starter and it cranks loads better now so hopeful it will start.
Whats the history behind the bike, do you know? Is the top end rattle/noise alarming to the point that you switch off immediately?
Hi Dave, After listening a little closer using a screwdriver to my ear, it actually sounds like it may be coming from the oil cooler area??? I've ordered one of those mechanics stethoscopes so I'll listen again when that arrives. It's not horrible enough to panic me into turning off immediately, but I worry it may do damage if I run it for too long. Bike has 13k on it Cat C Rad and nose cone and other bits were off when I got it. Rad looked like it had a thump so assume bike hit from side. Came with owners manual and full service history up to 6k 3 owners I can fix/replace most things on a bike but I've never really worked on engines so i'm out of my depth a bit.
to avoid confusion and double posting, any progress on the ruddy thing can be seen on my other thread http://www.1000rr.co.uk/threads/trying-to-get-a-crashed-rr9-to-run.28127/page-2#post-397289
