I have been stroking my chin for a while now, but finally bitten the bullet. This is the first of the two new bikes I have ordered to replace my 1199 Pangale.

As we have five and half acres of land, which is mostly grass with some woodland. We also have miles and miles of open fields and green lanes around where I live I decided to purchase something to have a bit of fun on. I have also been talking to a local famer who is going to come over with his massive tractor and cut a track through the woods.

So after a few weeks of haggling with uncle Honda he delivered this little darling on Friday. Its a new CRF250X fitted with a few little nice touches like the Yoshi exhaust system, some damage protection kit and a road legal package. I could have had it fitted out with the new 2016 White and Blue plastics but decided to keep the more traditional red and white. I have a box of bits that also contain all the 2016 plastics so when I come to sell or replace it I can just refresh it with all the new stuff and it will look like new again.

Being primarily a competition bike I knew the maintenance regime was going to be full on but I was shocked when I looked in the box and found the owners maintenance manual. Its a huge read and a lot to take in.

I was going to go for the 450X but the dealer advised me to have the 250 and see how I get on, apparently the 450 doesn't take any prisoners and will throw you off without any warning. At my age it takes a while to heal so I decided to heed their warning.

I cant really comment on the ride yet as I have only taken it out round the local lanes for about half and hour this afternoon, but even running it in its a huge grin and wants to throw is front wheel skywards at the slightest and unintentional provocation. It a great little bike and I think I am going to have a lot of fun with it.

What's the other one........ start guessing boys and girls, but not what you would expect from me and has been driven by the need to sell the Ducati due to having an ongoing damaged lower back that didn't suit the Ducati riding position.

I have given Jimbo a bit of clue via text so he could be ahead of the game if he getting his thinking cap on.

Upright riding position. Easy for getting on/off. Good for the back? It's got to be one of these!;)

    Nice one.

Your dealer was spot on; a 250 makes a much better intro to off-roading. Plenty of power and it will be easier to handle on single-track trails. I love my FE250 and get plenty of practice picking it up out of the dirt :)

I would love one of those little money bikes.

The nineT was a close runner but the BM salesman had such a arrogant attitude, didn't listen to what I was saying or asking and seemed more interested in pushing pcp finance when I had already told him I was paying cash. I got pissed off in the end and walked off. So no Dave its not a BMW.

I have just placed an order for a CRF150 for my son after getting back from the dirt bike show, hope he enjoys it and appreciates that I will have to wait a while before I can buy something for myself to ride in the dirt. Thinking about an enduro bike rather than a motocross bike so I can do some green lanes (legally).

The other bike which should be better for your age instead of the Ducati could be

    the "Yamaha R1M"…..
