Guys, fairly new to fast bike riding. Had a track day on Monday and found at higher speeds, the front of my helmet moved and was touching my nose and mouth, it's a HJP r-hap 10, so a fairly decent helmet.

Question is, is this normal or should I start looking for a new lid? It's a large btw and seems to be fine at road speeds, doesn't November at all.

Sounds like it's the wrong size or the wrong fit. It definitely shouldn't be moving about on your head. It's worth trying different brands of helmet to see which one suits you best.

Helmets on track days are for little girls, i find a trilby and sunglass work perfect and far better to be at one with the tarmac when falling off..;)

Tighter is better ! My NXR was a right squeeze at first. Now it's broken in it's a lot easier to get on and off, only the slightest hint of movement when head up at warp speed..

Looks like I'm going to need to splash the cash, quite like the look of the shoei GT air.....tried a large on, felt similar to my HJC, but the cheek pads felt higher, which may stop it moving. Thinking it may be a purchase best saved for the NEC.

Shoei do custom fitting free of charge.

They will change cheek pads and skull caps to get the optimum fit and makes a big difference. No charge if done at the time of purchase either.

I think I could do with a different skull cap in my GT Air, might be worth taking it up with me, (assuming I drive and not ride).

Can you have that done @Nytol ??
If so, I'm thinking, get the large, if the helmet moves at high speed, all is not lost, get a medium skull cap. Is this possible?

He difference between skull caps can be as much as 4mm.

A replacement skull cap is £40.

The service is available at all shoei dealers and not sure if there show stand will be able to help. I would just pop in a local shoei dealer.

    Glad the info was helpful.

Try a medium - if it goes on your head and you don't get a headache within 5 mins, it's probably right!

Until I read this, I was not aware there were different sizes, but I think it would improve the helmet fit for me.

It is tight around the sides of the head and cheeks, yet there is a bit of room above my head which does not feel optimal.

    Many thanks mate :)

My advice - Buy your helmet online (i hate to recommend this type of anti local shop keeper advice but...). Wear the helmet in the house for at least two hours and see how it feels. DO NOT REMOVE ANY TAGS, WORK AROUND THEM. If the helmet doesn't feel right for any reason return the helmet. You will have to pay for the return, but it will save you from buying a helmet that doesn't fit or hurts after a decent length of time.
This practice saved me from being lumbered with a HJC RPHA 10 helmet. If felt fine when first putting it on and wearing for a short while but after an hour, it really pressurised the side of my temples making it un wearable.

Strangely I'd suggest completely the opposite. I've bought a couple of lids online now and would never recommend it unless you're replacing like with like. Last time I was changing I got an Arai Quantum ST to replace my discontinued Viper GT and it just didn't sit right on my head. Arai have always worked well for me. I sent it back for a different size. That didn't work. I tried tuning the interior pads but that didn't work. Ended up driving from Teesside down to Lincolnshire to visit Sportsbikeshop who I bought it from rather than fanny on sending helmets back and forth for weeks. Ended up with a Shoei NXR. I tried on every helmet in the shop and the moment I stuck the Shoei on I knew it was right.

I don't think there's any substitute for trying on every lid in the shop in order to find one that has the correct internal shape. At least if you've got a 10-Bob bit head like mine :D

It wouldn't be so bad if retailers would let you take it home and wear it for an extended period but they don't and as far as they are concerned once you've bought it you've bought it. If it gives you a headache after 2 hours tough. £500 - £700 wasted. Not for me that option.

My bike helmet used to do this on the road. I went for a size down and its a lot better now. I also noticed different makes of helmets fit different I have an arai just now and mega tight to gy in and off but once ur head is in its very comfy.
