Is there anything to protect apart from using a heater?

You could use a dehumidifier.

 

Dehumidifier. I've used one for over 10 years. Big double garage (brick with timber roof) two classic cars and the bike in. Ebac industrial unit (due to garage size) works a treat, pulls loads of water out.

Frost guard heater and dehumidifier set to low keeps my humidity at about 60%.

 

Those are great, my friend keeps a car in one. But they do use a fan to suck in air then blow it through the bubble, so if your garage is damp then it blows that damp air into the bubble so you need a dehumidifier as well.

A: The Carcoon has two modes of operation; the first is the initial drying mode, where maximum airflow across a warm vehicle removes all the moisture. This establishes a dry car in a dry environment. The essential drying mode is followed by the equally important storage mode: here, airflow from the ambient environment is effectively blocked by the super atmospheric, re-circulating airflow through the Activated Carbon filters. Such filters are fitted on the inside of the two air treatment units.

 

I would guess they have changed the design then, plenty of early Porsche 911 guys on DDK forum use them with dehumidifiers. My friend keep his 67 show Beetle in his, the Speedwell mag wheels are worth more than a brand new blade.

 

I had a carcoon it was brilliant and no need for a dehumidifier.

MrB is your garage dry ?

 

I've known about Carcoon for years (but never owned one, never needed one) and have always understood that the car/ bike stood in a dry, recirculated air, otherwise you would be speeding up the rusting process.

 

Being timber it was quite dry (since moved) but far from 100%. The Carcoon kept the car bone dry could even put the car inside after being in the rain, open the zip and within a few hours it would be dry. Do the zip up and forget about it. Brilliant. I would replace the filters every 12 months and kept a wireless Hygrometer in there to measure the humidity.

Ive just put my blade in the Carcoon. They are based only down the road from me so I thought I would give one a try. I originally bought it to put my rd in but I've left that at my mates. They seem to get good reviews and it comes with a charger to keep the battery on the bike topped up over winter, if their is a power cut it then runs off the battery off the bike until the power comes back on, then it recharges the battery.

 

Just bring it indoors, living room preferably, or if living in a bungalow, the master bedroom
