I am looking for an open face helmet to use on the CRF both on and off road.

I havent worn an open face helmet since the late 70's and back then it was a cheap and nasty with 'helmets yes, compulsion no' painted on the side for a MAG rally.

I have been looking at the Shoei RJ Platinum and it seems a good compromise between old School and modern looks. I have had Shoei full face helmets for years and they seem to fit my noggin better than other makes. So this seems the obvious choice to make.

But, I have always had a hankering for a Davida Jet.

Although I have always had plain white helmets I really like the black and silver striped Davida which would match and go really nicely with my yet to be delivered 2nd bike..

Perhaps I should convince L that its horses for courses and I need both.

Decisions, decisions........has anyone any recent experience of wearing open face helmets that they wouldn't mind sharing with me ?

I once helped put someone's face back together agian after he hit a car with an open faced helmet. Multiple fractures and lacerations. My only experience !!

Got to admit, think I'd be looking at something more like this to protect the face...

But then, I'd be more concerned about my face tbh ;)

I can only say what others have already said, if it were me, I would be more worried about my face just in case I did come off rather than how it looked on the bike.

I see "HOGS" being ridden around with people in open face lids, a tatty denim jacket, no gloves and normal jeans, I shudder when I think about it. I for one have come off in normal attire and I paid for it, skin lasts for 3" of road, and on a 100ft slide, thats a lot of skin and bone to grind away :(

More on the topic, I like Shoei lids too :)

On a more serious note with a shoei head I would be looking at the adv hornet range. But as the old game show adage goes "the choice is yours!" :)

I'm old enough to remember riding before helmets became compulsory and can safely say that flies on the teeth ain't for me.
    Full face every time.

Had one of these and the visor was useless, constantly steaming up so spent it's life open, mx lid and goggles was the obvious choice for me.

Freedom as said above I have seen the affects of open face crash and wasn't pretty.
Also the shoei mx lid wasn't the same fit as my shoei full face so I would try some on mate

I think the shoei adv hornet is a mish mash of full face helmet shell as starting point with mx type clip ons, appears to be new lid design for 2015 so may not be same fitting as previous mx ranges.

But I would always prefer to try em on before actually buying to make sure of fit. ;)

I did hear a rumour that Henry Cole is doing a shed and buried at Jamie's place.

Thanks for all the advice everyone, I thought I had it whittled down to two choices but now you have got me thinking about my pretty boy looks.

I was pretty sure it was arai when I wrote the post but I'm starting to think it was something cheaper, I will have a dig through my old quad pics and see if I can identify it.
I normally only buy shoei and the occasional arai but I bought this one as it was monster energy to match the quad so it's possible I went for a different make to suit

I really do like the idea of an open face lid, but like others have said not sure how much use they would be.

I have been thinking about adventure helmets for a while for when green laning or during the cold season when the sun is rising or setting (because of the sun visor).

Would anyone have an idea how fast you can ride before the sun visor becomes an issue in terms of comfort?
