Quick one for you fellas, am i right in thinking that if I changed my rear disk for a Galfer wavy one will i need to replace my pads or is it different on bikes?
Yes, change the pads, last thing you want to do is ruin that nice new disc with old pads that have worn to the old disc. Some might say emery cloth the pads on a flat surface but for the price of a rear set of pads why bother (£20 ish)
Thanks mate, i'll just buy both. Is that all new pads are? people are saying stick to the factory Honda pads as there very good, is this the case or are there better ones? the bike is for the road and track.
Wait you use the rear brake enough to justify spending money on it But more serious can you not get them in a set with the galfer pads included ? If not price up the Honda pads then price up after market ones and go from there everything is made to a budget on standard parts so after market is quite often better and at times cheaper
To be honest I don't really use the rear brake much at all but I still want to know it works just in case, a little dab mid corner is sometimes all it needs but I cant even do that at the moment.
Some people swear by sbs, brembo, bendix etc over OE but I know McGuinness used standard Honda pads at the TT so think us lot will be ok with them what ever type of riding we do
Yeah but at the same time he probably never really used the rear brake so why upgrade? He defiantly never used the standard front pads and callipers not to mention the master cylinder
Push harder then lol. To be honest what were you expecting exactly ? the rear cant be too good due to the locking up of the rear tyre causing you to then crash as well as the fact they are a single piston unit compared to say the twin 4 piston ones at the front. The rear brake is usually shit on every bike because the front are where about 99% of people use like you said the rear mid corner for a slight decrees in speed but why dont you just come of the throttle or just counter steer harder into it
Agree, but guessing punisher has gone for the aesthetic appeal, and who can blame him. I can't remember which race but unless Clive was telling porkies earlier in the year when I was in, McG did use standard caliper's and pads up front for at least one race. I'm guessing that's you on the zx on track Carlo and I know I probably shouldn't ask on here but what do you make of the 10? As I'm tempted to change my blade next year.
Dam standard brakes in a race im sure as hell I wouldn't be doing that at there level lol I think its the best bike ive ever ridden to be honest its years ahead of the blade in fact the daftest thing I did was buy a 2012 blade i feel that I wasted 2 years on the wrong bike mid corner was never right it just felt wrong even with the after market rear sets adjusted all ways and when I increased its power the rear lost all grip and I high sided mine 3 times on track no mater what I did with the suspension I just couldn't find the grip. The ZX10 is more comfortable more focused more powerful and handles by far way better its a package that pisses on the blade. Now yes if you ride at a more conservative speed the blade is fine but then again so is the ZX10 and so is a scooter but its a superbike I ride one to ride fast and track the hell out of it I want it to do everything so if I want to ride slow I can the bike gives me the option to do all that. As for the electronics what wrong with having them ? it seems to me as if Honda want a "pure" riding experience well ill take a slight rear end slid with the traction kicking in to save my ass over me smashing into a barrier any day of the week. Ive had 3 Honda's and this is my first Kawasaki and I can honestly say I was weary at first but now im very glad I took the plunge its so good im even considering the new one. There is a massive reason the super stock grid is basically the Kawasaki cup. I ride all year round in all weathers and to work my biggest worry about the ZX10 is that ill have to sell it because its up at something like 80k miles. If it helps im 6'5" and 220lbs and I can ride it all day long
Now that's an answer And yes it does help as we are the same barring a couple of inches in height so that's good to know, some bikes just aren't for those 6" + My last 3 bikes were kwaka's the last being the 3rd gen 10 before a cracking deal on a new blade came along. From what you've said I will definitely be going for a gander and hopefully a test ride next year.
I know the rears are always pants but mine has nothing, i can stamp down hard and nothing happens, it will hold me for a hill start but i can also set off with it on no problem. my R6 rear brake was rubbish as well but if I stamped on it it would slow the bike and with the clutch in I could lock the rear (not intentionally I was new to riding) Im not pushing hard enough o use the rear often on the road but on the track i will be and tend to use it a fiar bit through the corners. can the rear master cylinder be upgraded? i only ever see the fronts. He'd be using more rear brake than you might think, it's used constantly to keep the front wheel somewhere near the road.
Ill tell you now you wont regret the move I was a big honda fan 2 blades and a 600rr loved them until I had a shot of my cousins zx6r 2012 I was going to trade the blade for it but ended up with the zx10 because of the 0% deal and the fact the I was used to the 1000cc
Yeah you can upgrade everything dude. Has the rear been run in??? if the bike is second hand the lad might just not have used it at all, Also the disk and pads might have glazed over with the road salt ive seen it with front disks before take the pads out and rub them down on something like a breeze block aka something rough and use wire wool to rub down the disk take the glazing off it. I only ever use the rear when the front is rising under full acceleration up a hill quick shifting through the gear's the anti wheelie works but you are pulling a massive one before it kicks in lol
Anti wheelie on blades? I had no idea. I had the pads out yesterday and gave them a good running down and it feels better, I have some Diamond Racing rear sets and Jordans think they may be the issue as the piston isn't going in straight for the rear brake but it's bolted on the only way it will go so it may be some new rear sets for me.
No the blade has fuck all ZX10R dude. So the master cylinder isnt going in straight? I had diamond rear sets on mine there were shit after I high sided the blade all they had to say was sorry we dont do any spares apart from foot pegs and toe pegs brilliant when you have just bent the carrier and the shift leaver. I went back to standard after that and sold the blade shortly after. There is a lot of horror stories on here about diamond
Oh yeah, I thought the blades had nothing electrical on them ha ha. I'm going to have to look at replacements I think, I bought them cheap off here, haven't been the best so far, I lost the gear selector peg the first time I went out and the gear linkage has also worked its way loose and I lost that whilst in a ride so I'm not impressed. Time to stump up for some Giles or R&G's I think. Any others recommended?
