Ok so spent most of the day removing ABS ECU and complete wiring and ready to disconnect the rest of the plumbing and pumps! I've hit a brick wall with the wiring! On removal of the wiring I had to disconnect the plug that powers the ABS system via the starter relay/solenoid! With this disconnected will the The bike still start? I'm along way to finishing and was 100% sure that the ECU and wiring harness was completely independent ?? Any ideas .....
This is the part in question! The cover that protects the connections have ABS front motor and ABS rear motor printed on the top hence why I removed this only to find out that the screw terminal connector goes to the starter motor!!!! I've traced the Blue and the White back to the ECU but the two middle wires go back to a another plug?
No the loom as it stands will not work.......you need to cut the abs wiring off of the starter solenoid. The solenoid relay needs to keep the green/red wire and the yellow/red wires fitted back into the bike so the starter will actually function to start the bike. The blue and white wires can be ditched and cut out of the loom.
Not 100% but I think it will have to be connected to the starter solenoid in order for it to start ,try it.when I done mine I left all the wiring in place but took off the ecu and pump ,then 95% of the plumbing and put back to conventional no problems ,the weight you save fron taking off loom is marginal there was one pipe I could not remove unless I removed engine so left it until refresh ,you are right in saying the abs ecu is independent to the main ecu but I say I think you will have to keep it connected to the solenoid for order it too fire I think it will be on a loop
We ripped the whole thing out of Colin's! Pretty sure we cut the loom open with a Stanley (get an adult to help if req ) to free the green/red & yellow red that allowed us to throw the whole abs loom out the way and then just wrapped leky tape over the g/r and y/r wires together to create a new loom on the bike so the wires wouldn't get caught in anything.
That's spot on with what I thought .... So I'm not going crazy.. Them two wires go back to a connector at the back of the engine that has 6 wires two are from the starter solenoid I need to keep.... Question is what do the other 4 do as this is the only connector that that I can't seem to trace??
Most of the wires in the plug go to various abs items, Orange/block goes to fuse h in fusebox. Orange/green goes to dash cluster. Blue goes to front speed sensor. White same as blue wire front speed sensor. Wires to keep! Yellow/red goes to starter switch button. Green/red goes to engine ecu, diode block, clutch switch
Thanks that's great, so as long as I keep the two middle wires Yellow/red and green/ Red and plug that block back in it won't mater the other 4 are disconnected ?? Thanks you have been a great help.... Was starting to have a righ moment!!!!
Everything bar a couple of small lengths of wiring at the plug in question. The speed sensor at the front wheel was disconnected at the plug closer to the front end, so there is a length goin from speed sensor socket up front wiring loom to the six pin plug and then we cut and taped up the wires coming out of the six pin plug socket into abs loom, now we only have the red/green and yellow/red wires going up from the starter relay solenoid to the 6 pin plug.
Yeah keep those two wires coming up from the starter solenoid to that 6 pin plug, we cut the others off so we could completely ditch the abs loom. This is why we took a Stanley to the loom covering so we could remove and keep the two required wires and cut the rest off an inch or two back from the plug so it could be refitted if ever felt the need. Does that make sense?
Your a star.... Fab that's put my mind at rest! The only part of the loom remaining that I've not traced yet is the front sensor wire like you mentioned.... It's way too late to go back now... Cheers fella
Yeh me too.... It's been a ball ache I have to say,! But I had one thing in mind.... If I'm taking it off then the lot comes off... End of
The two 30 amp fuses at relay can be pulled out as well to stop power being sent down the two larger thickness wires that would normally go to the modulator motors. Oh by the way if you want rid of the abs warning light on the dash you will need to open the dash and splice thru the led circuitry inside due to the way Honda has designed and added the power that feeds to the abs led.
Thanks again for your help, if I'm honest I'm not that worried re ABS light staying on and will probably just stick a small black bit of tape over it so I'm not always thinking I'm running out of fuel! Happy days.... Looking forward to releasing all the pumps, going to try and suck as much fluid out before disconnecting ....then just wait for my GP4-RX callipers and lines and then I will be free from any interference from any ABS system....
Its like reading a conversation between harry potter and dumbldore! Its wizardry or witchcraft I tell you!!
