ABS GONE!!!!!! Yipeee.....

    I removed my ABS a few weeks ago, and yes there are a couple of wires that you need to strip out of the ABS loom for the starter solenoid.

    I also took my dash apart to see if I could disable the ABS light LED but it looked a ball ache so I just put a carbon sticker over the led then put the dash back together again :)

    Interesting what an insurance company would make of it all come claim time if they found it was supposed to be an abs bike, then all the bits have been taken off it . mmmmm
    Insurance companies don't need much to wriggle out of paying out

    Have to say, I was wondering that? For neatness the starter solenoid could probably be swapped for a basic one like my SP2 has. No gizmo's on that, just a rock for a seat!!

    Well it's been a ball ache.... But I'm free of Mr Hondas ABS nightmares.... Well worth doing, I went the whole hog and removed everything.... Ever last trace, loom brackets!! just looking forward to building her back up with some stonking Brembos.... image.jpeg

    Everytime I read one of these ABS removal threads, the same question comes to mind

    How the hell did a team of people somewhere in Japansville ever get this pile of s*ite design past a whole corporate structure, surely just looking at that huge box of complicated bits would have been enough for at least one sane Japanhead to go "stop, enough of this crap, fit a Bosch system", at the end of the day the aim is to stop the wheels locking up in a panic braking situation, no more, no less.


    Lets hope the whole design team have fallen on their corporate swords and done the honorable thing.

    The only good thing is that its the only real tech on the 08-15 Blade, just think if they had really got s*itfaced on the Sake, what weird and wonderful things they would have come up with for TC/Power modes/wheelie control etc

    Does taking the ABS off effect your insurance at all?.
    I insurance companies will find any loop hole not to pay out in an RTA, so does one have to inform them that's it's been removed?

    Also will 2016 bikes fail an MOT without ABS?

    The brakes are great after removing the system.

    Would an insurance company even know what a ABS system looks like??

    Doubt it.

    It'll probably say abs on the log book , and if the thing is written off do the insurance company take the log book , or the dvla ?

    Can't see anything ont log book anywhere , mine says cbr1000 ra-d in all other bits cannot find anything saying abs

    So Mr insurance inspector will be able to tell , or the insurance company from the log book

    I'd be VERY surprised if any insurance co started pulling apart a smashed bike to find out what bits had been removed! If it looks right then it probably is. They're far more likely to be looking for things like Power Commanders, and exhausts not mentioned on the policy. Far easier to find.

    Will be interesting to find out, they do like finding loop holes to get out of paying where possible ;)
    Also all will interesting to find out whether MOT tests will be able to test for missing "safety" items? ;)

    Why would an mot tester fail a vehicle for not having abs fitted??? o_O

    The mot doesn't even check the functionality of an abs system beyond checking light on dash.........on a car the abs light must extinguish and stay off in order for it to pass.
    Bikes or at least Honda's c-abs the light stays on till the bike starts moving above a certain mph.

    As long as the brakes function as normal with appropriate braking force at both end with no warpage of the discs with decent pad thickness are deemed fit for purpose!

    Mot's still follow the same procedure as in previous years where if a system is not fitted it cannot fail for it, but if the components are there they must work most notably for example is extra lights....if they are fitted they all must work no matter if they are oem fitment or aftermarket!

    We got set about it ripping it all out after calling time on the flawed system after spending ages on it, replacing ecu's in order to even get the system to aknowledge it was meant to be going into bleed mode........700 quid extra that woulda been better spent on tyres imo!
