Hi iv just purchased my 11 plate blade and noticed the lower gears especially first to second is very clonky also clutch feels rough at times on lever but I'm mainly concerned about the gears, I don't remember the demo bike being so bad ? Is this common or any thing I can do or is it normal ?

Neutral into first is always fairly clunky on any bike I've ever owned but every other gear is silky smooth.

The clutch itself defo need some getting used to... I've read loads of post where people find it strange compared to other bike, I love the clutch now.

Mine was the same when i bought it. Don't worry, it will loosen up the more miles you put on.

Have exactly the same on my 11 plate blade since I picked it up on Saturday. I am glad it's not me then...

I have noticed that at 3-4k revs when throttling down in 2nd or 3rd the smoothness goes a bit. I am wondering if that is to do with the dip on the performance due to noise regs, or maybe just me. It will be interesting to see if there is a difference when I put my new aftermarket can on.

I don't have much time to explain right now, but this bike has some systems in place which could maybe be contributing to the feeling you're getting. It has a slipper clutch and also the ECU injects some fuel when decellerating at around 3-4k rpm. Could be nothing to do with what you're feeling, but the combination of the above systems and the slightly strange clutch action can cause some strange sensations until you get used to it.

My blade works best with the clutch adjusted so it bites very early

If you have it slack so it bites with a longer pull of the lever it feels terrible

This will defo make the clutch feel nicer.

Adjust it so it requires very little pull to engage the clutch (tight cable) but not to the point it's slipping of course!

Exactly how my clutch lever is setup too. Took me a while get it perfect. It's really just so light an action it's almost too light IMO. Mine doesn't click on downshifts any more though, but took a while to get the right technique to suit it.

If anyone's interested in other trickery going with this bike, google "Idle Air Control Valve" & "Ignition Interrupt Control".

Hi there.....also if it is before you have had your 600 miles service i think that the oil they put in the bike is more like mineral oil very light this enable the engine to bed in better and usually causes it to be a little more clunky till they to the 600 mile service

Yeah they are better after the oil change and once the clutch plates have a few miles on to. For some reason these clutches really don't like any slack in the cables.

Can't understand why they ditched the hydraulic clutch other than weight saving maybe?

Many thanks guys I hav put a little slack in my lever as that's how I normally have it, perhaps I try readjusting but the 1 st to 2 nd gear was notch before so I hope it beds in as u say and also when serviced, it also bugs me how it jumps so hard into first I know they r well known for that but surely Honda could sort it better I'm sure it's because the tickover is so high !

Im poSitive taking the slack out if the cable will sort you out

The first gear selection problem you mention could be a slack chain or a high tick over like you said would cause that also.

Don't mistake characteristics for problems! It doesn't need sorted and the bike doesn't have a high idle, unless it's still warming up of course (it's set by the ECU).

Mine is about 1100 I think

There is usually a little grub screw you can adjust the tick over with even on fly by wire bike. I made my R6 and gixer tick over higher.

My 08 is jumpy when going into first but most bikes I've ride are the same. Do you guys use the clutch for up changes? Mine is jumpy with the clutch but really smooth without!

Hardly ever use the clutch going up gears. It's miles smoother clutchless. Must be kinder to the gearbox as it feels much slicker changing
