    Morning all :)

This may be something you’re aware of but I thought I’d pass this info on just in case.

Recently I’ve been having a bit of a session eBaying old stuff I’ve had laid around the house for decades, (£44 for an old Nintendo 64 with no controller, anyone? :D), and in the process I found an old Apple iPod Nano 1st Generation that’s been sitting in a drawer for god knows how long. I hooked it up to my PC and it started charging but it wouldn’t access the tracks. It just said it wanted to be hooked up to iTunes to restore itself.

I was going to bin it but checked on eBay to see if it was worth anything and found that they fetch around £50!

Sure enough after posting the auction I started getting bombarded with messages from blokes wanting to buy it now and offering me an instant £30 – 40 and wanting me to pull the auction immediately. First thought……..something’s going on here :D

After 6 different people had made offers one kind soul sent me a message explaining that Apple issued a recall on this model back in 2011 and that it’s still active. You can return any old iPod Nano 1st Gen free of postage charges and get a brand new 7th Gen 16gb version in return. You just need to head to Apple's website and locate the recall page, enter the serial number of your device and then give your Apple ID and they send you a box to return it free of shipping and within 6 weeks or something they send you your new one.

That’s what the guys on eBay do. Offer you a seemingly attractive £30 for your beaten up old iPod and then return it for a brand spanker which comes with a Apple 32 pin to lightning connector. They then sell the iPod for £90 and the connector for £15 and make themselves a nice £75 profit for nothing. They were all requesting the serial number ASAP because they wanted to immediately activate the return in their name.

So if you’ve got an old one lying around…………

Funny. A friend with a 1st gen ipod nano just bought a new mac book and itunes on it won't sync it properly. Was only telling me this on Saturday.

    I've passed it on.

    Cheers cousin...

We've got two Gear4 ipod docks. One for Jeanette's nano 6 and one for my nano 7 because that was when they changed the socket...

Even then the one for mine is a bugger to fire up and there's a ritual to make it work. Plug it in, unplug it, plug it in again, turn the volume on the dock all the way up to full and back, then do the same for the iPod, repeat as necessary until it catches...

The first one blew up and the warranty replacement does the same. In the end I said buggrit! and bought one of these.

    It's the bollocks.

Just for clarity's sake.....it only applies to the first generation nano. Not the full-size.
