Yeah Tonic, it did cross my mind but if you read the reviews and watch the videos on you tube the MT-09 in group tests gets slated against the standard ST let alone the R due to it's shite suspension and lack of finesse regarding the fueling. I rode the Speed triple which is what I wanted (the Blade is a better bike but I fancied something different) then I rode the ST and the rest as they say is history. Cheers for the input though.
TBH I was hoping the Speed was better as I have owned a 98 Daytona T595 955i and an 02 955i Speed Triple but I enjoyed the Tona far more than the Speed Triple so was kind hoping it had move on somewhat. I understand the difference in using a bike with plenty of torque and using the torque to do what you want but the Tona was great as was the 01 Mille R before it (one of my top three (tied with my K3, so four really)) bikes with the 09 Blade maybe my No1 with No2 going to my K5 Gixer 1000 with my K3 Gixer 1000 firmly in 3rd place along with the RSV although not by much.
I haven't had a ride on the MT or the triple and have little experience anyway. Love the look of the triple though and looking forward to your ownership experience.
Just a quick update following purchasing the Street Triple R a couple of months ago. Since buying it, the weather has been unreal and I've not had much chance to get it out (cooer missus ) but the times it has been out have been superb (apart from a run out today which ended sooner than planned due to a puncture which saw me playing garage lottery trying to top up he rear to 45psi to get me to the next one before finally getting it home in one piece!! In my usual style, I have purchased a shit load of stuff for this, including pretty much ALL of the Carbon FBR catalogue such as rear hugger, chain guard, heel plates, front sprocket cover, tank trims, seat trims, clock backing and headlight bowls, all in Twill Carbon, Triumph colour matched belly pan, HP corse hydroform exhaust, R&G rad guard (cheaper than a new rad!!!) Power bronze front and rear crash protection, genuine Triumph frame protection, engine protection and all the red anodised dress up bits, Renthal gold +2t rear sprocket and anodised red nuts, re-trimmed comfort seat from Digger once again, and as the bike already had the seat cowl, nose cowl, R&G under tray, Triumph LED indicators, clear tail light, genuine levers, bar end mirrors and anodised master cylinder tanks when purchased, you could say it's pretty much complete. Still waiting on the seat and finishing fitting the Carbon but it's almost there. As to the perceived idea that it was going to slow me down, all it has succeeded in doing is limiting the top speed, but in the process it has turned me into a hooligan up to a ton! I am loving it. If anyone is thinking of get off sports bikes, you could do a lot worse. It's had my usual maintenance which includes re-powder coating the R&G under tray and fitting new stainless fixings, stripping the callipers off, to give them a clean up, removed the rear dog bones to re-grease it all, degreased and re-lubed the chain and hopefully fit new Diablo Rosso Corsas this coming week. I'll update the pics once finished, but for now these will have to do.
Guess the only thing left would be some nice sexy pvm wheels they really do suit a triumph lol Only jesting mate, they really are a stunning bike, rick (avb) pretty much says exactly as above..... He's loving his.... Loving the speed too.... Think I need to head down the cave, get it sorted and out on it sometime soon.... Not been out in a while
Dont get me looking for wheels now! The STR wheels are already lightweight thankfully.........although a Tona TTX rear shock would be nice.

Got my new flyscreen visor from Fowlers in Bristol for £50 plus vat without a fitting kit (they want an extra £25 for 3 x 5mm wind shield rubber well nuts and 5mm screws. My thinking was that I wouldn't use cross head screws anyway and mine would have to be stainless, and as I have both here I decided to just purchase the flyscreen visor. https://www.fowlersparts.co.uk/part...-vin-560476/flyscreen-visor-kit-vin-482182-on I'm led to believe the screen is the same as the Speed Triple one too and this confirms it. https://www.fowlersparts.co.uk/parts/8401/speed-triple-461332/flyscreen-visor-kit There was a question mark in my mind if it would fit but others have said it would be fine so I went for it, although they don't list one for the Street 13- On the back of the flyscreen there are 3 small circles about 3mm which are marks for the screen. I never got a pic but starting from the rear of the flyscreen I used a 2mm drill bit and went up in 0.5 or 1mm increments as with most things plastic it does tend to snatch a little and pull itself through but it was fine. This is the screen with the well nuts fitted. The holes needed to be around 9.5mm. ....and fitted with m5x25 stainless flange capscrews and 5mm nylon washers ....and as she looks now. I also fitted the remainder of the CarbonFBR stuff and just have the Daytona rearsets left to fit as I've recently fitted the Tona standard footrests and hangers instead of the Street ones and they are much more comfy, maybe it's coming from a sports bike.
Been out this morning and grabbed a few pics. (I needed to get a few shots with my new Sony WX350 camera anyway so it was the ideal opportunity).
You have done up your street triple a right treat. Just nice without going ott. She's a beauty. Talking of camera's, I have always had sony compacts and currently using the RX100 with great results.
Cheers fella. I sold my Canon 450D and tele lens and was gonna buy the RX100 based on the reviews but this popped up at a silly price so thought I get it to try and upgrade to an RX100 later. Not been disappointed with the results.
Just purchased a load of Daytona bits mainly from the bay of E from here and the US, so I can build my own RX conversion. Still waiting for my Triumph comfort seat to arrive and the pillion cowl arrived just after taking these pics. Just waiting on the paint arriving now from RS Bikepaints. Taken the rear pegs off since too. [/URL]
Got my paint from RS Bikepaints the other day and after prepping the plastics I gave them a few coats of plastic primer, grey etch primer due to the mix of colours (the cowl was red), metallic grey base and Matt lacquer and this was the outcome. Just need to fit it all now.
Well it's sorted! Got the decals from Jesters Trick Bits. Impressed for £7 the pair. Could have been slightly lower but I wanted to hide a mark. Very happy and it feels amazing. Almost like being back on a sports bike, it sits you flatter and not sure if it's my imagination but the front seems flightier. Best of both worlds IMHO.
I had a street triple r for 3 years, great bike. Had a lot of little niggles with it though, maybe just unlucky.
Right, fitted these Cree headlight LED lamps today and unlike the cheap ones these have head AND main beam. Offered the seller £40.55 plus the postage which was a nice round £45. Not too bad and bike specific. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triumph-S...8d89da9fa:g:1AEAAOSwoudW1~zH&autorefresh=true The size of the lamp makes it a little tight due to the depth of the Dame Edna bug eyes casings. I had to tie wrap the braids first them place another tie wrap around the lamp to hold the starter box and bulb harness plug but with a little thought it went in and I got it back together. I have to say I am very impressed with the light. Really white. Side lights (came with the lamps and they are polarity conscious so if they don't work just turn it around) The finished article. Main beam pattern before. After. Not quite so tight. Dipped headlight cut looks fine. Night time lighting looks like this. Definitely more noticeable not he road in the daytime. Got a shot on my mates S1000RR earlier today and he was behind me and very noticeable.
Removed and cleaned this...... Made the bike look like this so gave it a clean while I was under there..... ....then fitted this... Cant wait for the weather to get out and ride it now.
