Not a happy new year here! The missis' Ford S-MAX 2.5T engine has just been deemed FUBAR by the local Ford dealer. Surely a £26k car should last more than 5 years with service history? Ford state that no other option but to replace engine at a cost of £7k!!! So do you chaps reckon it's worth a £7K replacement for a brand new Ford fitted engine or a totally new car? The car is not worth much more now to be honest on book price but the car was fully loaded and maxed out on options when new.... Sigh...
Not as bad as her wanting to get a Merc GL320....! I'll need a contract with Sh£ll to power the mofo!
Defo get a second hand engine mate. Most breakers will give u a gaurantee with it. Also if u know anyone in the trade then it'll cost even less ie ' fitting costs'. I'm sure a few guys on here would be willing to do the deed if u don't know anyone in the trade. Ford engines are normally bullet proof mate.
7k for an engine sounds crazy!! I'd be kicking off with ford in spectacular fashion... It'd be cheaper to buy a new car as you say at book, put the engine in, and break the donor for some claw back money. Sure you've already trough of this! Thought fords were cheap to fix?
I'd be writing to ford asking for a cost price engine at the least or contacting the media fully serviced with 28k that's not right at all mate
You say service history. Is it full ford service history? Ps I have absolutely nothing to do with ford. Im just curious.
What is actually wrong with it? I hear this all the time especially the Ford dealer near me.Get a second opinion from an independant garage.Someone may be pulling your pisser..
The garage want £200 labour costs to inspect the problem to be exact, but the cam belt is missing and they think that the pistons are bent as a result of the cambelt being taken into the engine. I don't know enough to know how likely this is though?
I'm sure your cambelt is not up for renewal yet.I would suggest that if it's not you can claim this engine from Ford.Ford service history means ford have been servicing it and should have advised you as and when it's due.If the dealer says you are paying then I would go legal cos it's not done what it has been made to do, Not fit for the purpose it was bought for.Low mileage is your trump card.If you have no joy from them then get in touch with a brief and OFT.
28k and engines gone. I would be playing merry hell with ford and get them to pay some or most of the replacement. Contact trading standards for advice. Tell the dealer you will be contacting the media about this if you do not get satisfaction. 28K and engine fecking is not good the St engine is only a mild tun hot hatch but a big engine. Just for some guidance I bought at a kit car show a 2Ltr Brand new boxed Focus Engine for £650. OK only 145BHP but that included the throttle bodies, (non injectors) manifold etc... so a lot less than 7k
I'm sure they mean valves are bent and pistons damaged, bending a piston is practically an impossibility, maybe the rods where the timing is out and it's smacked the valve train?? If so then maybe the engine is a write off (uneconomical to repair) but 7k? Not a chance.
Engine has done 80k miles but car was £26k 5 years ago!! Just wrote a letter to the dealer and have escalated to Ford Customer Services. Will keep you all updated!!
