Ok after purchasing new Ohlins TTX36 shock taken from brand new SP blade can anyone confirm that the 110 is the right OE Spring ...21040-39/110... 110 on Ohlins website suits riders 225/250lbs!!!! That's like 16/17 stone! That's bonkers or am I missing something?? I'm now looking at 21041-34/100 that suits 175/200lbs works out 12 1/2 to 13 1/2 stone, I'm around 11.9 dry with no kit on so should be bang on? Can't get my head around why it's so high from a standard bike?? Any ideas??
If it was on a standard blade then I'd say yes that would be normal as it needs to contend for the possibility of a pillion and or luggage. For the SP though there is no need for this as there is no provisions for a pillion.
My thoughts exactly Colin!! .... No pillow option on SP so why such an overkill on Spring weight.... Does anyone know what the Showa OE shock equates too??? Got another one ready to fit tomorrow but just wondered if I'm missing something or going a little daft!!
Perhaps I should suck it and see then? .... Was hoping as it came off the SP I wouldn't have to mess around with springs....but I'm only going on Ohlins Website..
I'd go for a Spring for your weight, always the best way to guarantee that you get the proper range of adjustment to suit. Let me check my shock on the road bike as its an Ohlins. You may be in luck if it's a 105 and same spec, as I'm nearer 16 stone and could possibly swap.
Is the rear progressive or linear? Assuming the Ohlins is Linear but read somewhere the OEM is progressive I'm less less 70kg and find the OEM rear a little skippy, wondering if a +12 showa would be better than a pre 12 shock fully k-teched up
I think you may be rite about the progressive spring. I'm sure I read that somewhere now I think about it. Either way you still be better off with a linear spring for your weight. As for the OEM shocks. A fettled 12- shock that's been revalved and sprung is a good cheapish option for an upgrade.
Now I'm really lost! It's the right Spring for the shock and its off an SP! I'm not a heavy weight or fly weight! But according to Ohlins TTX shock spec its stares a 100 for my weight.... So what you running Colin?
I'm running a 110 in my track bike mate. I think it's a 105 I have in my road bike though I'd need to check first. With my weight I need a 110 rate spring. You would need either a 100 or 105 spring rate.
Thanks Colin, the Ohlins tec down at Crescents has got a 100 Spring rate ready to go in tomorrow morning! Just can't get my head around why it's a 110 in from standard! Like I said I'm just an average middleweight chap so it shouldn't have been a drama!.... Can do my 110 for £50 plus some postage if you need it, it's brand new... RRP around £98 give or take....
Dave I went from an Anniversary blade 2012 to the sp. I only ride on the road but found the sp suspension far to hard for road work, ended getting custom suspension set up.
Yeh it's always going to be a compromise, but thanks for the info. I bailed on the lighter Spring for now and going to get the shock in and set up the sags! Spoke to a chap from Kais today and he was very helpful about the big weight debate. Do you know what they did to your rear shock? Did you go for a lighter Spring? I'm guessing your not that heavy...
Kais did my set up, I weigh about 12 stone kitted out but kept the std spring ,don't know the settings. The improvement was massive though.
That's encouraging to know, I'm around 13 fully kitted out so not too far away, I'm going with the OE 110 Spring and going to see what the parameters are around the spring preloaded and setting sags... Glad you found a good improvement, when I spoke to Kais they were very helpful indeed.
