I've got a 2012 BP shock to go on my RR8, and I seem to have picked up somewhere that it won't fit with the RR8 hugger. 1 - is this true? 2 - does it fit with a 2008 aftermarket? 3 - is there a reason to go aftermarket rather than a 2012 standard one? I think the standard is £20. Ta.
It will fit, but you need to either trim the hugger down or fit a 2012> hugger... most go aftermarket for some shiny carbon ...
The wife doesn't even know about the shock. Which is why it arrived at work. Shiny carbon is not an option. £20 for a replacement from Honda is. And I think I'd sooner do that than trim the original. Ta.
Don't know if you're interested but I've had that idea for my 2010 so I've gathered some info on alternative shock springs if you need to change the rating. All you need is a good spring tool or friendly shop. Shocks L to R are, Early type with Hyper spring, Later type with Ohlins spring, Later type with K Tech spring from early shock(there's enough slack to let it fit), Later type with Hyper spring from Aprilia RSV4 which is right length and 57mm ID both ends. K Tech springs are 90Nm, Ohlins is 100Nm. Black is original 113Nm x 165mm. Difference can be taken up at pre load adjuster. Any spring from the Ohlins 01901 and 01902 range fit at 160mm long or K Tech springs 57mm both ends x 150(with spacer) or 160mm long. No spring from the Ohlins TTX range fits the std shock, they are all 52mm ID. All I've done is make a thin(5mm) shouldered washer to get the 57mm ID spring to sit better on the top end, see the 2nd and 4th shock, this is because the shock's shoulder is 52mm at the top end and the spring is 57mm ID. The original black spring, K Tech tell me is 113Nm per mm rate stock which allows for a passenger. Depending on your solo only weight select a spring from ebay etc for 90Nm onwards. I'm 105kgs ready to ride so I have a selection from 90 - 110Nm to try as well as the Hyper progressive ones(Purple) If you download the K Tech spring chart you can see all the 57mm options x 160mm long, this is where the Aprilia spring came from. Yes, you will need the later Honda hugger or an aftermarket one. Roll on a sunny day!! illa, post: 406996, member: 4065"]I've got a 2012 BP shock to go on my RR8, and I seem to have picked up somewhere that it won't fit with the RR8 hugger. 1 - is this true? 2 - does it fit with a 2008 aftermarket? 3 - is there a reason to go aftermarket rather than a 2012 standard one?
